Hi, I (the sponsor) mailed in my application on January 3rd, 2018 and I haven't received any confirmation or acknowledgment of receipt yet. Is this normal?

Still within the normal timeframe. It usually takes anywhere from 6-8 weeks from the date it is received by them.
