Border Crossing - No PR Card

Hi,

So I have heard that you can do a border crossing at the US to Canada with just passport and original PR document, my question is, how come you cant take a commercial bus? as if you are busing it to Canada, you have to get off and go through the border anyway?

any ideas?

You understand it wrong. The problem is not the border agent. The problem is the transport provider. They don't want you to get into bus or plane unless you have valid document that they know off (PR card). The reason is simple, if you are inadmissible to Canada and you are trying to enter, the transport provider must bear all the costs to take you back to where you came from.
