PPR extension for a planned trip

I got my PPR today (25 July), which is 73 days after e-APR AOR.

The issue is that I have 30 days to submit the passport (i.e. to submit by 24 Aug), but I have a trip planned for which I leave my country of residence on 4 Aug, i.e. in 9 days from now. Following the trip, I am not back in my country of residence until 10 Sep, which is after the 30 day PPR window. The visa office assigned to me can take up to 4 weeks for returning the passport, so its a risk that if I submit the passport now, I won't get the passport back in time to travel from my trip.

Does CIC provide extensions on PPRs for such situations? Has anybody experienced this and what was CIC's response?

The PPR email has an email address to notify if the 30 day period can't be met, but not sure if they are responsive / flexible.

Well I have notified on the email address included in the PPR. The auto reply states they could take up to 15 business days to respond...which is a real pain of a wait

I have never seen a case where a request for extension was not granted.

You are doing the right thing to ask for the extension and choosing to submit your passport when you return.

You duly informed your VO you would not meet the deadline. Pretty sure they will reply favourably.

Hello everyone,

Providing an update in the interest of helping others who may land up in a similar situation in the future. After emailing at the address included in the PPR, I found out that the email address was for my regional VO (ADVO). I received a reply from them 4 business days after my request, but the reply wasn't helpful. They asked me to raise a case specific query with my VO as they don't have my application. They mentioned that they are only responsible for the visa printing. I have written to them again explaining that I was asked to contact them in the PPR email and that the query is relating to requesting more time for submitting my passport for visa printing (which they said they are responsible for).

Just to be safe, I have also raised a case specific query with IRCC and sent an email to CPC-Ottawa (which I think is my VO based on where the original PPR email originated from), but their standard response time is 20 business days (which would be well beyond my 30 day deadline).

@others on the forum - has any one been in a similar situation? My final plan of action if I don't receive any reply from either ADVO or IRCC or CPC-Ottawa is to still try submitting the passport after the 30 day deadline and hope for the best!

I did manage to receive an extension but had to attempt several ways to get in touch with my VO, including 1.) replying to the email address that was included in the PPR mail - unsuccessful as it turned out to be the ADVO email and they just didn't have my application, 2.) raising a case specific query - haven't heard back yet so not sure whether this was helpful, 3.) emailing CPC Ottawa - successful as they replied to my email.

I landed up at the CPC Ottawa email by just replying to the PPR email (a desperate measure) and then reading the auto-reply which directed me to CPC Ottawa.

Hey Megan, Yes I did receive an extension for 1 month. CPC Ottawa were relatively quick to respond - they responded within 2 working days. Hope this helps and hope you manage to get your extension. All the best!

Since I am residing in US and close to Ottawa, probably they provided me their CPC-Ottawa email address for any concerns. I would like to ask a couple of questions here -

2. Did you provide any proof of travel along with your request letter?
3. If it is not too much to ask for, can you provide a sample response?

I am in similar situation, currently in US, got PPR on 12/27 and have international travel planned but dont have tickets booked yet. I am planning to send email as you did, wanted to check if just mentioning "I have international travel plan coming up" good enough or should provide more details.

Also, in case they dont allow extension, could this request have a -ve impact on my case?

Hi, @cc31, @canadapr, Sorry for the late reply; I was away on holidays so without access to emails.

1. We got granted an extension of 1 month (30 days).
2. I didn't provide any proof with the request email but was very clear about the reasons and included all the dates etc and also included the exact date till which I needed an extension.
3. The response was really very simple and straightforward - have copied it below

"Dear Sir/Madam, Please note that your passport submission date was extended to xyz/2017. You are requested to provide our office with your passport before this date for finalization of your application."

4. they are usually good granting extensions so I really don't think they won't grant an extension if you have a genuine reason. As for what happens if you aren't granted an extension; I am not really sure. A more probable outcome is you don't get a response in time, in which case, from my experience I recommend to try contacting via several means if you don't get a response. (email to the office, case specific query form on CIC website, other means if you can find these).
