Sponsoring my wife

Hi, How's everyone going?

Guys, I have a question... I am a Canadian living abroad, I got married to a Costarican woman and we have a 4 years old kid. We are considering to move to Canada but we have a special situation... My wife has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 3 years ago, she actually uses a wheelchair... the thing is that I have read through the website the requirements to become a permanent resident and one says "no health issues", but my question is, although I am Canadian, will the application be denied just for the fact that my wife has a neurological condition that affects her walking, it's not contagious.... I will really appreciate if you can share your thoughts... thanks in advance

You can sponsor your wife. Medical inadmissibility does not apply to spousal sponsorship.

Really?? the thing is that what we have in Costa Rica is a Canadian consulate which is the same as nothing and they only addressed me to the IRCC, the worked from that consulate asked me to call the "Canadians affair" number and go through the menu that has the option which is "immigration inquiries", I called (waited up to 45 mins to get answered) I explained the situation to the person who was attending me and she said " hey we are agents, not immigration officer so we can't tell you what the decision might be, but I'll tell you that the intiention of the "familiy sponsorship" is to reunificate the family, but you have to apply first to get an answer.... but, also keep in mind that the officer can consider that if she (my wife) comes to Canada she would need neurological treatment and it will represent a cost for the gouverment.... So I was like, can't you tell me yes or not?
Now do you know where I can read about?

Would start at the spousal sponsorship section. You will also have to show intent to settle in Canada to be approved. You will have to prove that once you get PR you will move to Canada. You need to have a job lined up or do job searches, have some place to live or have proof that you are looking, etc . Start with the application then you can move onto intent to move to Canada.

Yeah the call centre cannot give you any specific answer. The person on the phone was right, they are just call centre agents, not immigration officers. Your best source of information is this forum and the CIC website.

I also applied from abroad and had no issues sponsoring my husband from Guatemala. Like PP mentioned, you’ll have to prove that you will in fact move back to Canada once your application is approved. So start gathering all your documents and filling the forms. It’s a long process so better get a jump on it.

Actually, my intention is moving to Canada first, find a Job, rent an apartment once all that is done I come back to Costa Rica to pick them up ( I know that I have to proceed with my daughter's citizenship)

That is fine but to get approval for sponsorship while living abroad you have to prove that once you are granted PR you will move to Canada immediately (not in a year or two).

I apologize for the dumb question but, when you guys are saying " you have to prove that you'll move to Canada" how is it? like writing a letter with an action plan or something like that?

Pretty much. Give them details where you plan to live, how you plan to support yourself, include some job applications you have sent off.....things like that.

Yep. Lay out a specific plan. Not just “I’ll get a job and buy a house”. Print out job searches and real estate listings for the town you’ll be moving to. Explain why you’ll be moving there specifically ( job offer, family etc). If you get friends and family write support letters for you, make sure they mention in the letter that they are aware of your plans to move back to Canada and establish yourself here.
