My husband has received his Corp along with his copy of passport back since he is from a visa exempt country- Mexico. However the passport photocopy only has a stamp on it from Mexico. And the airline is asking for a visa to board the flight? Along with those documents they said the visa is affixed to the passport, is the stamp the visa? Any one had Experience with this and also about flying by air from the United States to Vancouver Canada?
Thanks would really appreciate it

It says we don’t need an eta for a visa exempt country. But the airway says we need a visa. Is the stamp on the photocopy of passport the visa?

You ONLY need an eTA if you are from a visa exempt country... that’s why they exist. If your country is not visa exempt, you need a visa; if your country is visa exempt then you need an eTA.

1, The op's spouse doesn't require an ETA, he has a COPR , with his passport that is sufficient as Mexican citizens are visitor visa exempt.

Thank you PMM. So My husband should be able to board a flight with just the COPR and Mexican passport. Even though COPR says not valid for travel?

So even though copr says not valid for travel , the copr and the Mexican passport should be ok? I called a few airlines and they had no idea about the copr so they said he would need a visa. But he is visa exempt. And an eta he cannot get bc he already has copr... confusing.

"Not valid for travel" simply means that it can't be used in place of an actual travel document, i.e. a passport. As he is visa-exempt, he was granted an eTA when his COPR was issued. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=1184&top=23

So if the passport is connected with an eta they just scan it and it automatically comes up? Does he need to bring the copy of the passport that the visa office in Mexico stamped as well?

If you are from a visa exempt country and have COPR, you actually do not need eTA but some airlines are not aware of this and might create problems. I have read in this forum people recommending to get eTA online which does not cost much.

I picked up my CoPR today at an embassy (visa-exempt country) and I asked about the whole eTa thing. I was told that there will be information about my PR when they scan my passport before the flight. Think about it. Those with stamped visas on their passports from visa-required countries do not need eTa. CIC definitely thought everything out, it wouldn't make sense or be fair that we would have to apply for an eTa. Even if it's quick and cheap, we are not supposed to do any extra steps. You get instructions with the CoPR that do not say anything about it either. So don't worry and let us know after your flight about how it went.

Ok I didn’t know if it came up when they scanned the passport. Now with the copr it says I should of had a visa affixed to my passport the form imm 5785. So that doesn’t really exist, it’s just electronic?

No, he doesn't need that passport copy. It is all electronic.
