Unfortunately you won't qualify to apply in 2018. Your 2015 income is around $5K too low (what matters is the income you actually earned in Canada - not your salary). You'll need to wait at least another year.
Thank you for you reply!

My income for 2015 wasn't' 5k its more ( If you are calculating April 2015 to March 2016 then the total earnings ( Fiscal year 2015-2016 before tax is $56500). Does that make a difference.

Thanks,

I didn't say your income was $5K. I said it was $5K too low (i.e. $5K below the minimum required).

CIC will look at your individual annual tax returns - not mid year to mid year. So your 2015, 2016 and 2017 each need to individually meet LICO. for 2015 they will look at the Canadian income you made from Jan 2015 to Dec 2015.

Gotcha!!! Thanks for the update!!

It's not posted yet.

Hi,

I'm aiming to sponsor my parents in the 2018 entry. I've been looking on the website and it seems I have to fill out a form to let CIC know that I'd like to sponsor my parents. Since this form is not yet available, given the past year does anyone have an idea as to what I'll need to fill out in this form once it's available? Is there a fee? Documents required?

My understanding is that the full application with the fee for my parents is to be filled and submitted once (and if) I'm selected in the lottery.

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Hi

There is no fee to enter the lottery. As for what information will be needed or whether any documents are required, that remains to be seen. IRCC screwed up the last lottery by not asking for any qualifying information in the entry form, which allowed thousands, if not tens of thousands, of ineligible people to enter. Hopefully they will learn from that mistake and the entry form will be a lot more specific.

Thanks canuck_in_uk! Very helpful. I thought I was missing something, don't want to be surprised in Jan when the form is available.

Hi
Just want to make it clear here:
If you are applying for parents sponsorship in 2018 then you have to provide income proof/T4 for 2017/2016/2015. You would get confirmation email in April if you application is selected in a draw or not and by that time 2017 T4 would be ready for you.

Below is the note on immigration website for 2017 applicants.
Note: If you are applying in 2017, you must provide proof of income from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for the taxation years of 2016, 2015 and 2014.

Regards
Hans

This is not clear yet, until IRCC releases the new rules. What applied in 2017, may not be the case for 2018. Unless you have insider info from IRCC, all you can do at this time is guess.

A T4 is not a valid proof of income. One must have their entire taxes assessed with a Notice of Assessment. And not all people get T4s, those self-employed have later tax filing due dates than those regularly employed.

There is a good chance IRCC will conduct the lottery draw much earlier than April, and require 2014,2015,2016 incomes to be eligible. Especially if they will be asking for income information as part of the lottery this time around to fix the mistakes from last year.

and if an applicant is applying in 2018, then it automatically be 2017/2016/2015.

No it is not automatic. The lottery will be completely changed for 2018, so what you are reading for 2017 is not relevant for 2018. It may end up being the same, but nobody knows this yet. You are just GUESSING.

Normally everyone get their 2017 income proof/T4 by the end of January and online application opens on January 3rd for 30 days so that you can provide income proof for three consecutive years.

Again, T4s are NOT ACCEPTABLE INCOME PROOF. Only your finished tax return is sufficient proof. And yet again, many people are self employed so do not get T4s and take extended times for tax returns.

When 2017 lottery was first rolled out in January 2017, it originally asked for 2013/2014/2015 incomes. It was only after they screwed up the lottery and took many extra months to hold the draws and start accepting apps, that IRCC then changed this to 2014/2015/2016 incomes.

So wait until new rules and timing are rolled out before you declare anything as official.

I would expect that for 2018, they will require incomes from 2014/2015/2016 to qualify since 2017 tax returns may not be ready yet depending on app submission timing after lottery. You will need to wait until later this year (probably December) before you know if you'll qualify to enter the lottery.

Does your 2015 income meet the minimum income amount? This would depend if you were working for a full year or partial year.

For 2018, do we have to meet income for 2017, 2016, 2015? Or 2016, 2015, 2014?

I do not meet 2014 requirement.

I would guess they will ask for 2014,2015,2016 incomes.

If you remember when the lottery was launched in Jan 2017, they originally asked for 2013, 2014, 2015 income. It was only months later when they realized how badly they screwed up the lottery and draw was delayed by many months, that they adjusted the rules to 2014, 2015, 2016 income.

Since the lottery/draw this year will hopefully be run much more quickly and more efficiently, 2017 tax returns may not be ready for all when they start intake for the 2018 applications.

But as mentioned above, wait for new 2018 rules to be posted on CIC site, which should happen any day now. May get lucky and they'll accept 2015/16/17.
