SInce you have not landed yet, I will take a hypothetical date and answer . Lest say you land on 01-Jan-2018. Then, between 01-Jan-2018 to 31-Dec-2023 you need to have 730 days or 2 years physical presence in Canada. After 31-Dec-2023 it is a 730 days or 2 years for any given 5 years. That means, after 31-Dec-2023, if IRCC examines a period from 01-May-2018 then they will examine 01-May-2018 and 30-April-2023. SO, after the first 5 years at any given point in time period there should be 730 days or 2 years physical presence in Canada to be considered as you having met the residency obligations.
It is however , not 0-5th year time period and 6th-10th year time period. It will be 0-5 and then it will be 1-6th year , 2-7th years and so on.
For Citizenship, as of now its 3 years physical presence in Canada. So, if you have 3 years in the first 5 years then you are eligible why go for the 6-10 years time frame. The physical presence in Canada need not be continuous except that it will be 3 years as compared to 2 years to maintain as PR.

Thank you so much for detailed response. This clears my doubt.
So 2/5 to sustain PR and 3/5 to claim residency.

My renewed card was sent by CIC as per online status, not delivered yet.

kindly advise..my PR card is going to expire in April 2018, And have already applied for renewal as i have traveling plans. What is the usual practice..please give some idea..

Any idea how long it takes in second review due to travel history.
It’s a wide range, 6 months to some upto 2 years before they get the card.

Usually they send by mail but in rare cases they might ask you to come and pickup your renewed card, they will not ask you to come to their office to submit your current card.

I received my card.

We are permanent resident of Canada . Landed on 1st July 2012. Our PR card expired on 15th of August 2017. I and my wife applied for renewal and have fulfilled residency obligation but our three children doesn't fulfill resdidency obligation . They visited Canada four time during last five year. We left them to stay with grand father because he was alone there. Their grand father was pass away this year in June and finally we shifted them in Canada and enrolled in school from September 2017.
My question is that , In this situation there is a chance to apply for there PR renewal on compassionate and humanitarian ground .
My 2nd question is that , can we wait until we parent qualify for citizenship then we include our children application ??
In this situation still they needs residency obligation or piggyback to parent ?
I read one paragraph from cic website , is this work in my situation
"Minors are not subject to the language, residence and knowledge requirements that adults are subject to under the Citizenship Act. However, citizenship officers need to check whether the minors still have permanent resident status, i.e., they have maintained their permanent resident status. Identification, documents and prohibitions will be verified prior to the Oath taking, usually at the citizenship ceremony."
Is this help in my case of children ??
