Can employers of PR holders sponsor visas for the spouse?

Please clarify.

Thanks,

Your question isn't very clear. What do you mean by "sponsor visas"? What kind of visas?

I mean, can they not arrange for a TRV for the spouse to be with their partner in canada? Usually in other countries, like US or UAE, when a married person joins a company, the organisation arranges for the movement of their spouse.

SO, if my husabnd joins IBM, can IBM not arrange for a TRV for me? does that happen in canada?

If your husband joins IBM - you can apply for either a TRV or an open work permit.

YOU would the one who has to apply. IBM would not apply on your behalf and would not be the one to sponsor you.

Wait. For me to apply for OWP, my husband needs to initiate spousal sponsorship for which he needs to be in Canada. We live in UAE right now. And as far as I know, once the spousal sponsorship process has begun, it is very difficult to get a TRV for the spouse.

Sorry - I missed that your spouse is a PR. I thought he was a foreign worker. In that case you don't qualify for an OWP as the spouse of a foreign workers.

You can apply for a TRV. You would apply on your own - IBM cannot sponsor you.

If you wish to work, there are two options:

(1) You obtain a full time job offer from an employer in Canada and that employer obtains an approved LMIA. You then apply for a closed work permit.
(2) Both you and your husband travel to Canada. Once you are both in Canada, he applies to sponsor you inland and includes an OWP with the application. It will be approved approximately four months after the application is submitted.
