Have a couple of basic questions. Appreciate the help.

Sponsor is a PR.

Q1: How much time on an avg is it taking from AOR -> grant of PR for an outland spouse nowadays (based in USA)?

Q2: Is there a way for the spouse to live or work in Canada before sponsoring her for PR, like on an open work permit?

Q3: Is there a way for the spouse to come to Canada when her PR application is in progress?

Q4: How much time on an avg is it taking from AOR -> grant of PR for an inland spouse nowadays?

Hi,

1) This is hard to say because they have recently made some changes to how apps are being handled and many US applicants are being processed completely in Mississauga now. However, based on the information we have available, I would say 7-8 months is a good estimate

2) When you say "before sponsoring her for PR" if you mean before the application is submitted, then no. If you mean after the application is submitted, then yes - if you apply inland, you can apply for an OWP at the same time and that will be issued in about 4 months.

3) Yes, your American spouse can come to Canada legally as a visitor and stay for up to 6 months. She can also apply to extend her stay from within Canada as the original six months expire.

4) According to the new timelines this should be taking about 12 months from now on.
