I found some discussion in another thread on this forum about the background check which dates back to 2011 but it shows that there have been people who had been stuck in the same loop that we are right now! Here's the link:
http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/threads/applicants-waiting-for-background-checks.74510/page-5
It does not show what happened finally? CBSA sent me a copy of gcms in which ss activity 1 is not whited out and it says "received by CBSA", updated date 3 Jan. So they definitely got something 3 Jan. But CSIS worked on ss 3 Jan to 7 April and sent advice to IRCC via CBSA on April 7. I am not sure if CBSA got CSIS advice or not? Also I don't know if both CBSA and CSIS started working parallel since Jan 3rd?
Also my gcms says EDE required since Dec 2016 and shows "EDE results pending only". I am not sure what is EDE. There is a medical EDE which is extensive demand exempt but I don't think this EDE is related to medical. It may be electronic data exchange or sth like that.

My assignment due date of Aug 13 passed (as many others with the same assignment due date) and Monday 14th finished in Ankara and no change.

There are applicants still in SS since June 2016.

If you look at the summary of that guy's application you can see he got the PPR email in October 2011.
I'm really angry after seeing your post. Why the hell are these people doing this to us? I'm so worried about the future of our application!

I found this for EDE: Excessive Demand Exempt

http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/threads/difference-between-ede-and-non-ede.343156/

Our cases were sent for Excessive security.
There is no option, we have to wait

yes this EDE is for medical. But in my case EDE is some kind of excessive security as you think. What I don't find is the exact EDE abbreviation related to ss.

One guy from Nov got PPR couple of days ago from Ankara (Sally K husband in the table). But he never ordered gcms or anything so not sure if he was in SS for a long time or not.

Hi everyone,

My wife sent multiple emails to Ankara about her application status. Here is the email we received from visa office after waiting for 14 months:

Please be advised that this file is currently being processed for background checks. This involves consultation with an Other Government Department (OGD).We are awaiting a reply from the OGD to be able to complete the background checks. This is a required element of our assessment and the file cannot be finalized without it.
We are not in a position to advise when the OGD will be able to provide their input. Please rest assured that we are checking the file regularly for the input and will proceed once it is received. The published processing times are for files where no additional processing is required. In the case of your file, this review was deemed necessary and therefore must be undertaken. We will be in contact when we are ready to take the next step in processing.

I can't take it anymore. She got stock in background check since 11 months ago! Sorry for my language but these stupid asholes are torturing us. She has never been a member of any govermental organization or any political party. Why are they doing this to us? They simply said in the case of her file additional processing is required and they can't advise when the OGD will be able to provide their input without any explanation! It means background check can take forever!

I need your advice. Do you think hiring a lawyer may help? My wife and I are really under pressure and it is impacting our relationship.
Hello Sohrab,

I am just writing to advice you and your wife to apply for a visiting visa. I am very disappointed to learn that visa offices and the immigration office do not take care of such a lengthy and excessive security checks for ordinary applicants like us in the family sponsorship class. But you see, there's not much in our control. I applied for a visiting visa and my application was approved. It's not easy as everybody tells you that you may be rejected or it can negatively affect you PR application. But don't listen. You have to carefully gather powerful evidences that your wife will leave Canada at the end of her visit. It's also hard because of its expenses. But we did it anyway to save our relationship and to get rid of the stress and pressure the application process had put on us.

I am still worried about PR case, I can't work as a visitor and can stay for 6 months here unless I get an extension/study/work permit. I have just applied for an open work permit (app. processing time is 16 weeks). So, the problems are not going to be solved all at once. But I feel much better, we could shape our life much better by being and living together, and I still hope that they give me an open work permit so that I can cover a part of our expenses.

Good luck, and I really hope that our cases get finalized sooner in a good way.

Hello Mona. Nice to hear from you. You are the only one who got TRV. Others are all rejected. but in women case maybe it is more chance so I suggest Sohrab to try too.
Can you please send a CSIS request to see if you are at security screening and if CSIS has finished your SS and it is now with CBSA?
Your case is a bit diff maybe they are just waiting for FBI record for US PC. If you are stuck at SS with CBSA I doubt they give TRV.

Thanks a lot strengths2 for your good words and activity on the forum. I doubt that everyone with our problem has tried the TRV path and got rejected. However, this is what I believe to be a practical workaround for this situation. I want other peers to know that this is also a possibility and just take some time to do the research and to find out whether or not this appeals to them.

For the CSIS report, can you help me with either it is a privacy act or access to information? What should I asked for? As long as I remember you had written a personal note for them explaining the situation. So, should I have to ask if they are done with my SS? And what's the deal with FBI?

Thanks.

I mean since you lived in US before the wait time may be for IRCC to get FBI report and you may not be in security screening. Does your myCIC show background check in progress?

Just send a cover letter saying that I am a PR applicant under spouse sponsorship since XXXX. I'd like to know about the status of my security screening for immigration with CSIS. Something like that.

If you want to order it under atip I think you can select privacy act since you are in Canada and it will be free.

second method is the following.

How can I find out about the status of my immigration screening file?

For general information on immigration/ citizenship/ refugee/ visa-related issues, contact Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) at 1-888-242-2100 or website www.cic.gc.ca.

To enquire about the status of a government clearance or an immigration screening file, the following information is required*:

  • a full name,
  • date and place of birth,
  • the signature of the applicant, and
  • a return mailing address as replies are not sent by email or fax.
If you are enquiring on behalf of another person, the request must be accompanied by the Consent Form to Disclose Information to a Designated Individual.

Mail or fax the request to CSIS at the attention of:

Assistant Director, Operations
Canadian Security Intelligence Service
P.O. Box 9732, Station T
Ottawa, ON
K1G 4G4
Fax: 613-369-2954

* If a request is missing any of the information noted above, a reply will not be issued. Please allow up to eight weeks for the processing of requests.

Hi All,

I am currently living in the UAE however I am not a citizen of this country I am here on a visitor visa my parents live here I applied for Canadian Study permit which I was refused but I am now preparing an appeal for it.
My Peruvian passport allows me to visit Turkey for 90 days. My question is if I can apply for this appeal in Ankara because the turnover is 1 week. This is because the processing time in the UAE takes 4-5 weeks. and my study will begin in less than 3 weeks.
