Hi guys I have a question about the visitor status while waiting for my PR.
For my country, I can stay in Canada without a visa for 6 months.
I went to New York for a trip a month ago but they DID NOT put a stamp when I entered Canada again. I just resubmitted my application and am waiting for AOR.
So the question is:
Does the 6 month period count from I first entered Canada or when I came back from New York?
Can I leave and enter the country again in order to remain as a visitor while waiting?
Should I apply to extend my stay as a visitor (but I don't have the AOR yet)?

Hopefully some of you here can tell me what to do. I'm so confused. Can't find definite answers in CIC website... Thanks in advance.

If they didn't stamp you back from NY it probably means the period count from the first time you entered Canada. When will your status expire? And when did you send your application? If you applied for an OWP with your sponsorship application you will have implied status until they issue the WP. If your status expires soon, there could be a problem if they return your application because it's incomplete, but otherwise it should be fine. If you didn't apply for one you should ask an extension of your visitor status, normally one month before the expiration of your status. You don't need AOR to do it.

Update on landing interview:
It was fast and straightforward. We were the only couple there and only took 10 mins.
First the officer asked for $490 payment confirmation, passport and sponsor's ID.
Then she asked if i ever charged or convicted of a crime in any country, refused admission to canada or required to leave canada, and if i have any dependants.
Signed some papers, stamp on passport, and done.
When did you apply ??

My application was received on June 29th and I got AOR on August 1st.

I have a question though. I submitted my police certificates and Schedule A but it still says "your action is required". Is this normal?

I got my AOR today and I cannot link it either. I've tried all possible combinations - Date of birth - passport - no of people 2 - with and without space after... No idea... I guess I'll have to try again tomorrow and then contact them :-((((
It wasn't working for me either until I inserted all the requested info (including place of birth) aside from all the passport information, which I left blank. That worked! Best of luck

Got my app linked with my account. They are requesting for SCHED A. Is it easier to mail it? Or do it online??? Thank you all!
Definitely online, so they will receive it right away and there is less risk of other issues!

I believe it's only who is being sponsored. This is taken from the CIC guide website

Who must fill out this application form?
This form must be completed by:

  • The principal applicant (the person being sponsored);
  • and
  • all dependent children aged 18 years or older (whether accompanying you to Canada or not).
Regardless of the instructions, if you submit it online it only allows you to submit one form.

I got the AOR on May 12th and received OWP in the mail on June 22nd. ( but it could have been earlier than June 22nd since we have a community mail boxes and I don't check our mail box everyday.) The valid date on my OWP is May 30, 2019. So I think May 30th is the date they issued it and it probably took me about 3 weeks to receive it in the mail.

also, this is the link I found in searching for information on linking apps. Hope it helps.

Sorry if this is redundant.

if you google or use searching engine here, you might be able to find more information. ( I typed "linking application canadavisa" on google and clicked " more results from www.canadavisa.com ", and found the link above.)
Thanks for sharing your experience and information.

Regarding the "linking application" instruction, I am quite confused as following:

leave passport number "no fill" ?

You should be able to link right away. As long as you follow the linking instructions i.e DO NOT put in any passport information. Link using UCI or Application Number and Family name, leave passport information blank, and put City and Country of Birth. Then it should work. Also make sure to put '2' in the number of people on the application (if just you and wife).
Thanks for sharing.

But I tried many ways including yours, still showed "nothing found". From all successful experience sharing, linking problem seems caused by bugs. Why do not they fix it? I guess I am silly to ask that.
I am really confused

I still have a valid visitor visa in my passport. They didn't void or stamp it. They just stamp on one of your passport page. As for work permit, you supposed to bring it to the interview and they'll take it from you.
My hubby had a valid OWP and they stamped it to invalidate it even though we got to keep the paper.

They stamped his passport, and gave him a landing doc which they said he needed to keep in a safe place since it would be needed for government services like pension, etc.

That's odd, I guess it's different for everyone. I am really puzzled about why they make everything so difficult, finding an application should be a no-brainer.

I've also read online to try to fill all information and leave the town of birth blank (only press space once in that field), but it did not work for me. Hope you'll be able to link it soon.
