I have around 55 days post ITA, and I just got to know that I will need a Spanish PCC for the time I spent studying there. I am confused between doing it myself or asking a friend to do it. How easy has the process been by doing it yourself? Or do you guys feel authorizing my friend will be faster and easier?

I applied for one myself- check CIC for steps to follow and got it bank in less than two weeks. I got a friend in Germany to make the bank transfer to Spain and send me the receipt which i then posted along with my documents via courier. You should be fine if you follow the steps on the website or authorize a friend if easier.

Once you get your police clearance certificate from Spain, make sure it is legalised by the Ministry of Interior (Ministerios de Asuntos Exteriores), after getting it translated by an authorised translator as specified by the Canadian Embassy of Madrid.

Then, just see if you can get all those attested at the Canadian Embassy in Madrid.

Finally received spanish PCC yesterday. That is within 14 days of them receiving my application. And received ITA as well, march 01. Wanted to share that i received PCC as you and many people here were of such great help. Thank you very much everyone. Now, for translation how do i proceed? Will spanish embassy translate it for me as i am not spanish national? If I translate it through other translators, do i need to fill affidavit of translator?

Make sure you go through a translator that is officially certified by the Spanish Embassy. As long as it's someone on their list through the website, the Spanish Embassy will approve it, and attest the certificate for you.

So here is what the lawyer in Barcelona told me who is helping me get the PCC.

1) Ask my friend to fill the MODEL 490 with her details and my details in the relevant sections.
2) She goes and pays for it in Barcelona, and gets the PCC same day.
3) In the model 490, I have asked them that I need it for Canada, so if they legalise it then good, or else my friend will send it to Madrid via post for legalization.
4) After getting the PCC, it must be translated only by a sworn-in translators mentioned by the Spanish Government.
5) After that, she will take it to the Canadian embassy in Barcelona for approval
6) Finally ship that to me.

This should take a week.

If I have forgotten any steps, guys please let me know.... I have around 50 days on my ITA.

Guys, I got the PCC however it doesnt mention the time I spent there. Just a generic one that says you have been cleared of any criminal activities.

Have you guys got the same kind of PCC?

The PCC you have received is perfectly fine. It does not include any details of your stay period or date of entry/ exit.

Sorry to jump in to your discussion, but I am in the middle of this Spain PPC getting process and I have some doubts that you might be able to enlight me.

I requested my PCC by mail direct to the Ministerio da Justicia in June but, unfortunately, my certificate got lost on the way back and I never received it in my address. In this sense, I hired a "gestoría" - company who requests this kind of documents in Spain and they were able to get my certificate. The problem is that the certificate came with an eletronic signature and It was not legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, nor verified by the Canadian Empassy.
My major problem is that I am running out of time to send my documents to CIC. Could you please walk me through this process of legalization and verification in Spain? I am afraid that for getting it verified in the Canadian Embassy I would need the translated certificate and It my take more time than I have available. I have 8 days left to do all this.

I think your best bet is submit everything as is if you are running out of time, and meanwhile get the other things done which you can provide if they request it later.

I’m in the same trouble as was you.
Sent all necessary docs from Canada to Spain by DHL.
They received them on Nov 8.
There is Nov22 and no response or certificate.
Don’t know what to do.
Do you have any direct contact # and e-mail address of Oficina Central de Atención al Ciudadano del Ministerio de Justicia?
What is “gestoria” and how does it work? Do you have any contact details of that one you’ve used?

Call there and They will let you know about your Document.
I got it legalized in Brazil and have no problem.
But the first request I did by Mail got lost and I had to contract a office in Canada to do all procedures again for me. I indicate you do the same.
I was waiting for 2 months and It never got to my address.
And also pay attention that if you do it by yourself you will have to have time to get it translated by a sworn translator in Spain and then get it legalized in Canada consulate in Spain.
In my opinion, the best option is either going there and doing it by yourself or contracting an agency.
I contracted an agency (Espanha fácil) that could do the whole process in 2 weeks for a huge fee. :/
Anyway, it was worth it.

I'm missing one last document before submitting my PR application and it's a criminal record certificate from Spain for my girlfriend (common law) since she spent there over a year (studying/working).

We applied by post as described here www .mjusticia.gob.es on June 9. but haven't received anything back yet.

We sent them
- 790 form
- proof of payment
- certified photocopy of passport (by Canadian notary)

In another document it says legalize a photocopy of passport at your nearest Spanish consulate. Is there a difference between having it notarized by a Canadian notary and having it legalized at a consulate? Anyway even if we did something wrong, they should at least return the application or let us know whether we're missing something.

We tried to email Ministry of Justice in Madrid twice but no response yet. We have just couple weeks left to submit the application so getting little bit worried.

You can get your PCC translated by an authorized translator in Canada. I did same. And I did not legalize it an Canadian consulate in Spain nor in spanish consulate in Canada. I just had it translated by a certified translator. However, I attached the credentials of the translator. That much was more than enough and now my wife and I have received PR. Everything done smoothly.
