I'm a software engineer and a web designer / graphic designer by trade. Will do all you mentioned in an hour, 2 hours if you want to go fancy on your forms. About training, pleaaaasseeee! Have you called CIC ever? :)
I am aware that you are half joking but you have no idea how complex government IT is and how all the different IT systems are intertwined to make sure that literally everything has a paper trail (even if said paper trail might be digital).

Well, I think that we start watching the table tennis game between HoC and Senate.

We had a ping, followed by the pong, and today we witnessed another ping.

Regarding the fact that the well known socialite Linda Frum is playing for the opposite team (and consider this bill a personal crusade) I do expect to see few more strikes from both sides.

Maybe you're right, but if something needs to be done, then it needs to be done, I remember the time when they had to push new temporary work permit forms into effect back in 2013 (I guess, or maybe 2014), going from LMA to LMIA, and they did it in a jiffy! All systems updated, forms, uploaded and staff trained, I clearly remember that bloody transition. It went fast, but not smooth. Staff were not really trained but they got it in a week, people were confused but they dealt with it. In one single day everything got changed, there were people that literally had to unpack their package just to download the new form and send it again. Old forms sent back with couriers. So again if it needs to be done, it needs to be done. There is no buffer time here. Just from experience.

Why should the put so much pressure on and risk exactly this kind of confusion with many many small problems? Do you really think they'll do everything with extra pressure just so that some of us can apply a week or month earlier?

I'm not even saying that they will take like crazy long but to expect that now IRCC employees take night shifts and crazy pressure just for our own convenience is a bit entitled, I think.

A week or month earlier? Buddy I personally save 15 months if this becomes law this month! Why should they? For the exact same reasons they had when they introduced C-24. How long did the transition take? 2 weeks? If I'm not mistaking!

Being optimistic is a bonus but talking about being super pessimistic, you're killing it mate!

I agree with spyfy. I do not think they are in hurry especially for the 3/5 and pre PR clause. The biggest campaign promise is achieved automatically after the Royal Assent which is related to the second class citizenship. At this stage the government will not allow the hurry to cause any confusion to the system because the government will be blamed. Besides this needs extra resources and careful plans that will take months. Let us just hope will not take a year.

I actually don't understand what you guys are talking about! Honestly! (I'm not angry or anything, just can't digest your comments)
Don't you guys remember how C-24 went into effect? Did anybody blame anybody? There were people that got stung over only 1 day difference! Did they say anything? Did the government listen? There is an old Canadian joke, bitter and sweet at the same time and completely true. But it goes very well with every situation in Canada:

How many Canadians does it take to change a light bulb? None, They don't change lightbulbs, they accept them the way they are.

What I am trying to say is that, yes of course it is nice to have everything smooth and swimmingly your way, yes of course it would be great if they take their time and train CIC call centres, of course it would be awesome if they bring the damage to the minimum anytime a bill passes, of course it would be brilliant if they don't rush into things. But let's face it this is not how it works in Canada. If the bill passes and they force it into effect then the chips have to fall where they belong. They will schedule a date and then try to work around the deadline. Not the other way around, meaning they would not work everything out and then schedule an effective date!

Again, from experience,

Again, from experience,

I am not talking about people blaming the government because it does not give a sh**. The C-24 took 1 year to come into effect (talking about the 4/6 clause) because the bill had many clauses as bill c-6. Imagine, only 3 amendments took this government more than a month to accept 2 and reject one amendment. Do you think changing forms or dealing with 1000s of applicants at once will take few months? I HOPE SO. As I stated before in this forum, it might come into force early 2018.

I just do not want people to be over optimistic because usually that leads to depression. I hope it comes into effect in 1 week, again talking about 3/5 clause not the whole bill.

I agree C24 was passed in July 2015 and took effect in June 2016.

After it was passed there were speculation about when it would be effective.
There were speculation about it being Retrospective or Retroactive and no one had a clue until the day it took effect.
Some people were hopeful that some kind of law suit would trash the bill

In the end what had to happen did happened

I don't think she, or anybody from the government, had said "it will become law by the end of June"

these are the times you find yourself saying to yourself ..."damn liberals, are you ever sure about anything ?" Where is NDP when you need them ?
