Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone has been in a similar situation and can share their experience.

I’m trying to register my daughter’s birth with BC Vital Statistics, but my full name appears entirely in the surname field on my Canadian passport and citizenship certificate, with no given name.

Has anyone with the same name format successfully registered their child’s birth? How did you enter your name on the form?

I’m also considering a legal name change to separate my first, middle and last names. Does anyone know the current processing times for a legal name change in BC and a replacement citizenship certificate?

Once my legal name change is approved, can I get a passport in my new name using my existing citizenship certificate and name-change document, then apply to update my citizenship certificate afterward?

Thank you for any advice or experiences you can share!

I don't know the answer to your other questions. For this part, yes - update / obtain passport with new name first, and then correct/change the citizenship certificate afterwards.

Some never bother changing the citizenship certificate, because the same combination (old citizenship certificate plus name change doc) will serve in future, and hardly anyone ever uses the citizenship certificate after getting the passport - so entirely up to you.
