Hi everyone,
I’m planning my return to Canada and would appreciate insights from the community.
My Timeline & Context:
Initial Landing: 3 years ago, I flew from my home country via San Francisco to Montreal and stayed for about 5 months. I didn't sign a long-term lease, so I only have Airbnb digital receipts, flight itineraries, and foreign credit card records.
Departure: I returned to my home country via Montreal (YUL) using US Pre-clearance (routing through SFO). Because of this, my passport lacks clear entry/exit stamps.
PR Card: I applied for my PR card after landing in Canada, but it was lost during the process.
Current Situation: Planning to cross the US-Canada land border (e.g., Rainbow Bridge) before my initial 5-year residency window expires.
My Plan:
Fly to the US (Buffalo area), and cross the land border on foot or via private vehicle using my valid passport and original COPR (Confirmation of Permanent Residence).
My Core Questions:
1. Exit/Entry Records & Proofs: Since I left Montreal (YUL) using US Preclearance (leaving no physical stamps in my passport), does CBSA have complete electronic records of my entry and departure through data sharing with US CBP? Also, are Airbnb receipts, flight tickets, and foreign credit card histories sufficient to prove my 5-month stay 3 years ago?
2. Residency Calculation: Since CBSA likely has my entry and departure records, as long as I can accumulate 730 days within my initial 5-year period, am I legally safe regarding residency obligations? What concerns me is if CBSA doesn't have my entry and departure records, or am I overthinking?
3. Land Border with COPR: Has anyone recently crossed a US-Canada land border with just a COPR and passport due to a lost PR card? How did CBSA handle it?
Thank you all for your help!
