Hi, I read through this thread, and I find that most people got their IME in their 1 year and 7 months. I submitted the application in Jan 2025. Can I do the IME without the request and send it to IRCC beforehand, or should I wait for the request? Any info would help. Thanks in advance.
Hi! Just a quick note regarding your timeline: 1 year and 7 months is actually much longer than the standard average. For most applicants, the medical exam (IME) or its request typically comes around 1 year (plus-minus a couple of months) after submission.
As for doing it proactively: no, you shouldn't do the medical exam without an official request from IRCC. If you do it upfront on your own initiative, the panel physician's clinic won't have a specific IME number linked to your active application file, and it will be very difficult (sometimes impossible) to properly attach those results to your case. It's always best to wait for the official instruction letter.

From qcacz:
Application submitted: July 18, 2024
MIL received through GCKey: March 13, 2025
Medical done: March 14, 2025

From andkayoh:
07 August 2024 - Submitted inland sponsorship application
April 2025 - Health exam invitation

From La_15:
July 24, 2024 - Application submitted
May 1, 2026 : Medical extended until April 2027

From SkyEarth:
IRCC Submitted: Nov 9, 2023
Medical Extended: Sept 13, 2025

From damientian:
Submitted: December 12th 2023
Medical extented : Sep 26th 2025

The above are what I collected from the members under this thread. Typically, people get their invitation around 1 year and 5-8 months and then get p1 around 2 years. Thanks for your clarification on the IME. I will do it after I have the request letter. Thanks for your reply.

For my husband, his IME was on December 21, 2024, and they extended it on May 1, 2026. So, he received the medical exam instructions five months after submitting his application on July 24, 2024, and he is still waiting for the final decision.

I can see from your signature that you’re here as a student, is that correct? Have you already had a medical exam? If so, this is just a guess, but maybe they haven’t asked you for one yet because they’re going to reuse the results from your previous medical exam.

Thanks for your reply. I did my IME for my study permit in 2021. Idk if this will be reused for my PR application. It has been 1 year and 7 months since I submitted my application, and I can see that most of the people receive their decisions around 2 years. Just a little panic lol.

Hi there,

For what it’s worth, we also submitted my wife’s application in Jan 2025 as well and we are also still waiting for IRCC to request her medical. She’s got everything else (CSQ, Biometrics, Eligibility, PAL). She’s also been here as a student for 10 years and is now on a PGWP until Feb 2028.

Maybe there’s been a slowdown on medical requests starting in 2025 due to Quebec capping immigration more firmly.

I also wouldn’t hold on to the 2 year timeline that others who applied previously have gotten. Quebec’s timelines have exploded and according to the IRCC timeline tracker, we probably still have another 11 months to go. Hang in there!

Hi everyone! Quick question regarding the trackers: which tracker are you currently using to track your application progress, and is it working properly for you? If you have a working link or a specific tracker tool you prefer, could you please share it? Thanks in advance!

Personally, I used to rely on the IRCC tracker, but it has been down for months now !! It really frustrates me because it was by far the most reliable tool. Now, the only tool is GCKey, and it’s completely out of date. For example, it still says that they’re assessing eligibility, even though the tracker showed that this stage had already been completed for more than a year before it went down.
