It is the exact same process but with an intermediary. You must coordinate with CBSA because you can’t just book any flight given you have a removal order.

No they will meet you at the boarding area and either give you your passport or give it to the airline. If it is a voluntary departure, especially without transit, then you typically are given your passport back.
