I am a 22-year-old Pakistani citizen who applied for a Canadian study permit on July 17, 2026, for the September 2026 intake, to pursue a thesis-based Master of Science in Biotechnology (Chemical Biotechnology specialization) at Brock University, a public Designated Learning Institution.

I hold a BS (Hons.) in Biotechnology from a public Pakistani university with a CGPA of 3.01/4.00, graduating in 2025. I achieved an IELTS Academic score of 7.5 (Listening 8.0, Reading 8.5, Writing 6.5, Speaking 6.0). Since November 2025, I have been working as a Research Assistant at Pakistan's premier national research laboratory, gaining valuable experience in fermentation optimization, molecular biology, and CRISPR-based genome editing.

A tenured Professor and Director of the Centre for Biotechnology at Brock University has confirmed thesis supervision and provided a strong Letter of Support for my application. I have secured a confirmed funding package of CAD $30,548 per year from Brock University, which covers my tuition and fees and is renewable for the second year. I have also deposited a CAD $23,000 CIBC Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) for living expenses, which exceeds IRCC's minimum requirement of CAD $22,895. The non-refundable tuition deposit of CAD $1,000 has been paid.

My family's total net worth is independently certified by a Chartered Accountant at PKR 106.8 million (~CAD $540,000), comprising three commercial properties with PBA-approved valuations totaling PKR 92.6 million, gold (14 tolas valued at PKR 6 million), a bank balance of PKR 1.74 million, and other movable assets. Our combined family annual income is PKR 9.48 million (~CAD $48,000) from rental properties and government pensions.

Regarding my bank statement showing PKR 1.74 million over a one-month period, I understand this may raise questions. However, rental income from our commercial properties is received in cash, which is standard practice in Pakistan, and is thoroughly documented through registered tenancy agreements and rent receipts from past few months. My GIC covers my living expenses, Brock University covers my tuition and additionally contribute to some of living expense.

My strong ties to Pakistan include my widowed mother (59), who relies on me for care as the primary responsible son, two siblings residing in Pakistan, income-generating property I own, and a clear career plan to return to Pakistan's pharmaceutical R&D sector after completing my studies.

I completed my biometrics on July 21, 2026, and underwent an upfront medical examination before applying. My application is fully documented with notarized translations, Chartered Accountant-certified net worth, PBA-approved property valuations, land revenue records, tenancy agreements, rent receipts, pension payment orders, and my father's death certificate. As a master's student at a public institution, I am exempt from the Provincial Attestation Letter requirement.

I am respectfully seeking honest feedback and suggestions on my application.

You may not get response in time with estimated processing at 6 weeks. Family's net worth is not relevant unless in your name only. You are single so no family ties to IRCC. Hopefully you will be approved

Actually I have shown net worth of myself and my sponsor (mother) only
Not included my brothers property in this.
For ties I showed my widow mother as both my brother doing their own job and managing their family so I'm the only for who have to take care of her and manage our property and mine as well.
For ties I have shown three different things
My widow mother
My own rent generating property
My connections and community
My future career in Pakistan along with my property.
I saw funding decision for masters are taking less time. I'm hoping will get the decision in mid August.

To IRCC, family ties are spouse and children given your age, not mother and siblings. Also how can you leave her then if she needs care? She is not a tie if coming for a few years anyways.

Net worth is not funds and you are over 22 so IRCC doesn't need to consider your mother's net worth. So you have a job now and showing the career progression and promotion you will have when you return to justify the costs. That is good. Brock U is not a top 5 university in Ontario for biotech so you need very convincing justification.

Although technically correct, I don't think this necessarily applies to somebody who is 22 years old. Overwhelming majority of young people who apply for funded researched-based degrees like OP have little to no family ties (as they are not married).

I believe OP has a strong profile overall, and the funding should make justification a bit easier. That said, I have some questions for OP:
- brock uni isn't particularly high ranked, why didn't you get accepted to another uni if your primary purpose is doing research?
- if your mother relies on you, how will you go abroad?
- what % of tuition is covered by your finding?

Because I got my supervisor from brock and funding is covering full fee and additionally contributing 10k to my living expense.
My mothers currently not relies on me as she's managing her own and my elder brother is also assisting him
But after a year or two my elder brother will get married and I'll be the only one to take care of her. So that's why I have to return to manage my property and take care of my mother.
Brock is good for my type of research as we already have decided my project to work on written on letter of support from supervisor as attached with the SOP.

So you were approved? If not what stages have been completed - background, eligibility, medical. You are still within normal processing times. So hopefully a decision soon.

Biometrics completed on 22 july
Waiting since then.
Do you think I have good chances?
Along with funding I purchased GIC.

Have you passed the medical? Processing is 7 weeks so chances of response in time are low. I don't know your chances but you have no family ties. Taking care of mother is not a tie and you are over 22. Since you own your property in your name only then show leases on it that you are getting income from it.

Medical is upfront
And for home ties..yes I have shown property that generates rent on my name. And a good career pathway.
