Hi everyone,

I submitted a Private Sponsorship of Refugees (PSR) community sponsorship application for my brother, who is a refugee in Egypt, on July 21, 2024.
After one year, he received a G file number, but since then, nothing has happened.
I recently asked my Member of Parliament (MP) to contact IRCC for an update. This was the response they received:
Eligibility: Not started
Security: Not started
Medical: Not started
Criminality: In progress
The estimated remaining processing time is currently 27 months, with an estimated completion date of October 21, 2026. Please note that processing times are subject to change depending on IRCC's workload and the progress of your application.
I'm very confused because I received almost the same information a year ago, shortly after he got his G number. At that time, I thought we were still waiting for the sponsorship approval. Now, two years after submitting the application, the status still seems almost unchanged.
Can anyone explain what is actually happening? Is it normal for a PSR application to remain at this stage for so long? Has anyone had a similar experience or received the same type of update?
Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Not sure where you are getting that processing time but it is typically much longer than 2 years. Estimated processing time is an additional 27 months so not October 2026. Another 27 months may also be optimistic.
