Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice regarding a possible NOC mismatch after submitting my Express Entry PR application.

I received my ITA and have already submitted my application. For my Developer position, I selected NOC 21232 (Software developers and programmers).

Recently, I compared my reference letter against both NOC 21232 and NOC 21230 (Computer systems developers and programmers), and now I'm wondering if 21230 might be a closer textual match.

Some of the duties in my reference letter include:
  • Consulted with clients to collect and document business and user requirements and develop and convert them into functional and technical specifications.
  • Developed, maintained, and improved software application by writing and updating program code based on project requirements.
  • Identified, monitored, and resolved software defects, bugs, and system issues during development and testing.
  • Participated in the planning, development, and maintenance of XYZ's software products in line with company standards and release procedures.
  • Created and maintained technical and user documentation for new software features, product functionality, and installation guidance in Confluence.
  • Conducted functional, user acceptance, performance, and regression testing to verify software reliability, efficiency, and readiness for release.
When I compare these duties to the official NOCs, I feel that 21232 is still a reasonable match because it involves software development, coding, testing, bug fixing, and documentation. However, 21230 seems to align more closely with the requirements gathering, specifications, maintenance, troubleshooting, and documentation aspects of my role.

I've read a few posts where applicants mentioned their work experience wasn't accepted because the officer felt their duties matched a different NOC than the one they selected. Because of that, I'm wondering if I should proactively submit an IRCC webform asking to change the NOC from 21232 to 21230, or if it's better to leave the application as it is since 21232 is still arguably defensible.

Has anyone been in a similar situation after AOR? Did you send a webform to clarify or correct your NOC, and if so, what was the outcome? I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience.

Any and all comment is appreciated. Just honestly ridiculous that i have to worry about this.

Both 21232 and 21230 are close enough that either could work based on your duties. The fact that you're coding, testing, and fixing bugs fits 21232 fine. IRCC officers aren't looking for a perfect word-for-word match to every duty listed in the NOC, they're looking at whether the overall role is skilled work at the right TEER level. Both of those are TEER 2 so your CRS points wouldn't change either way.
I'd leave it alone honestly. Sending a webform to change your NOC after submission can sometimes cause more problems than it solves, it flags your file for manual review and adds processing time. If an officer has concerns they'll send you a procedural fairness letter and you can explain then. But for two NOCs this similar, it's unlikely to be an issue.

That makes sense. But I've seen several people getting outright refused. Without PFL or ADR because of NOC Mismatch
