Hi Guys,

How would I respond to this?

We have reviewed your application for nomination under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program. Please upload the following information into the portal by Wednesday, June 10, 2026:

Worker Expression of Interest (WEOI)- Points claim:

You claimed 7 points for completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from outside of Canada.
  • If so, please provide a copy of your ECA showing that your education is equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree level in Canadian standards.
As per the Worker Expression of Interest (EOI) Points Grid and AAIP answers for common questions, education points are awarded based on the highest level of education only, whether obtained in Canada or internationally. If an individual completed their highest educational credential outside Canada, they must base their education selection on their Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report obtained from an organization designated by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). If they have lower education obtained in Canada, they cannot claim additional points for education in Alberta or elsewhere in Canada. Given that your ECA report shows Secondary School Diploma and Diploma (2 years) only in Canadian Equivalency Summary, you should have only claimed 4 points as opposed to 7 points for Education on your EOI.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I went back to the EOI portal to see the Education Section and this is how it looks like:

Education
Highest Level of Education Completed

(Drop down menu where I selected Bachelors Degree)

If you completed your highest level of education in Canada, select the location where it was completed
(Left this Blank because both choices in the Drop down are in Canada)

Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) Completed?
(Selected YES because I have ECA available)

So what I am thinking is that I should have selected the CANADIAN EQUIVALENT instead of what I actually finished from my country of origin which is Bachelors Degree. The thing is, there was no explanation whatsoever in this section that I needed to select the Canadian equivalent. It just said Highest Level of Education Completed *. I even checked the whole page to see any mention about it but there's none.

And I didn’t second-guess selecting "Bachelor’s Degree" because the next question asks for the location where it was completed where I didn't select anything because it's outside Canada.

How would I respond to this email? Can I upload a letter of explanation?

Thanks

Did you submit the ECA with the application? If evaluated as a 2 year diploma that is what you should have selected. At that point your Canadian education would be the same level if you also obtained a 2 year diploma in Canada. If your points are reassessed and you would not have received the nomination your application will be refused.
