Hello everyone,

I’m hoping someone here might have experience or guidance with a situation I’m currently navigating.

I have been accepted to a university in Canada and I am preparing to apply for a study permit and my kids.

For my son, consent letter etc is no problem, but for my daughter who has a different father, who has been absent for her entire life and has had no involvement in her upbringing.

I am wondering if a notarized affidavit explaining the situation and confirming that I am her sole caregiver along with supporting evidence. (daycare, school and medical records) would work.

I can't find any official information (IRCC) on situations like this neither can I get through to anyone at the Canadian Embassy here.

Has anyone had a similar experience where a parent’s consent couldn’t be obtained, how was it handled?

I want to make sure everything is properly documented and accepted, as I want to avoid delays or complications.

Any advice, shared experiences, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Does your child have a passport? Usually you need proof of full custody through the court system.

Yes please, I am also listed as parent on her National ID. Here, full legal custody is informal unless an issue arise, or a parent takes another to court for maintenance. So normally, the mother or father, who the child reside with, takes care of etc are listed as primary parent on all important documents.

So apply showing the $35k cash for living expenses plus tuition and provide all documentation. Assume this is a degree or masters program if going to university. If children are attending school then apply for study permits. Don't know ages but child care can be very difficult to secure so get on waiting lists.

Understood, yes I will be pursuing a Masters Degree. Kids will be 7 and 14 years old, so no daycare needed. I appreciate your response. Thank you.

Once study permits are all approved and have a lease, then register children in local school board. They will not be attending the same school as 14 year old will be in high school. They will be going to school at different times so 7 year old may need before and after school care depending on start and end times.

Oh, Thanks. I would look more in to it
