It just depends on the officer when you will get the next update. No fixed timeline. But your next update will be PA eligibility and Background check (Criminality, Info Sharing and Security).. Usually, Info sharing and criminality are quicker, security takes time as it is done by CSIS and is not under IRCC control. The most important step is PA eligibility or receipt of the Pre-Arrival letter. Once that is complete, you are almost PR, just a matter of time unless there are serious background concerns..
Does the PA eligibility get done in Canada or is the file sent to the pa's country of residence? Does ircc send email notification on file transfer?

It is more common to have eligibility passed/Pre-arrival before the background check is completed...Just in your case, it is not that common to get pre-arrival even before medical..Mostly, the background check is the last step before the portal/PPR.

Did you call the IRCC call centre to check the status of your file?
I did they said it's not done the completeness check and they gave me an application number that starts with XF. I tried to link it again to gckey with/without the X but still nothing is found in the system unfortunately

okay. XF is the temporary file number. Once the completeness check is completed, you should be able to link the application. Always try without the X. Family class application starts with the letter F. Hopefully, you will get it soon.. :)

Does receiving pre arrival mean pr visa is approved? Otherwise what is the point of giving pre arrival services.

Receiving a pre-arrival services letter is usually a very positive sign, but it does not necessarily mean that permanent residence has been officially approved yet.

Generally, the PR process includes the following assessments:
  1. Biometrics – Used to help verify identity and support background checks.
  2. Medical Examination – To determine whether the applicant is medically admissible to Canada.
  3. Eligibility Assessment – The officer reviews the application and supporting documents to ensure all program requirements are met.
  4. Background/Security Checks, which typically include:
    • Criminality: Review of police certificates, biometrics, and other law enforcement checks.
    • Information Sharing: Verification with partner countries (such as the U.S., U.K., Australia, and New Zealand) where applicable.
    • Security: Assessment by the appropriate Canadian authorities to ensure the applicant does not pose a security risk.
In most cases, a pre-arrival letter is issued after the eligibility assessment has been passed or is largely satisfied. Since eligibility is one of the most common reasons for refusal, receiving a pre-arrival letter is generally considered a strong indication that the application is progressing well. However, the application is not officially approved until all admissibility checks (medical, criminality, security, etc.) are completed and the final decision is recorded by IRCC Officer. After final approval, the file is forwarded for issuance of the PR Portal invitation or Passport Request (PPR), depending on the applicant's circumstances and country of residence.

So, while a pre-arrival letter is a very positive milestone, many applicants who receive it are eventually approved.

Guys,
Any updates on your end?
I think it just depends on the officer. Sometimes, they process eligibility right away along with the sponsorship eligibility. Sometimes they process it towards the end.. If anyone's eligibility is passed sooner or they receive a pre-arrival letter, then most of the time they are in the fast processing queue and will receive PPR/portal sooner.. Most of the time, after eligibility is passed, it goes for a security check, which is the last step before final approval..
