Hello, just need some input from you guys. Out of everyone whose application is progress and did not get returned, is there anyone who applied after only 2 years as a PR with the rest of the time filled by their PGWP status AND had a trip or trips outside of Canada? How much extra days did you give? I’m eligible in a month. Became a PR in April 2024 but I had a couple of trips outside Canada since then. When would you advise me to apply for citizenship? Thanks.
Applying after 2 years is not an issue as long as you’ve lived in Canada for atleast 5years prior, I believe. You’d also have to account for the number of days you spent outside the country and add those days to when you because a PR. So, if you became a PR on 24th of April, 2024, but spent five days outside of Canada, then you want to apply on 29th of April, 2026 (provided you’ve been here for atleast 5 years before becoming a PR as that counts as 1 year towards your citizenship).

Goodluck.

I had a similar situation. I took 4 trips during my eligibility period (both pre-PR and PR years) and left a 2 week buffer before I submit my citizenship application. My application is taking longer than people I know who didn’t have any trips. I’ve also been invited for an interview, which might be to verify my travel history (not completely sure yet since I haven’t received the instructions).
Anyway, there are people in this forum who didn’t leave much of a buffer and have already received their citizenship, so you never really know! I’d suggest leaving a bit more buffer if you have more than 1–2 trips, but every case seems to be different, so it’s hard to rely on others’ experiences.

Hello, when you say “as long as you’ve lived in Canada for at least 5 years prior,” do you mean prior to the citizenship application or prior to me becoming a PR? Because I came here January 2020, which means I was in Canada only 4 years prior to becoming a PR.

Thank you so much for your input btw. I appreciate it.

Ahhh I hear you. I was planning to do 3 months after my eligibility. ie apply in August. 90 days should be plenty of time, right? So that’s 1185 days or so. I have yet another short trip to Germany early September. I don’t think leaving after applying makes a difference does it?

Sorry I'm replying because this is not accurate. You don't have to have lived in Canada 5 year before becoming PR. This is the requirement:

You must have been physically in Canada for 3 years during your 5-year eligibility period, which means 5 years before the date you submit your application. Now for the years prior to becoming PR, each day as a temporary resident during your eligibility period counts as 0.5 days of physical presence in Canada and you can use a max of 1 year from those time.

Yeah, a 90 day buffer should be more than enough. Again, you can apply as soon as you reach 1,095 days and get your citizenship in a few months, no one knows :D Each case is different, so it’s really up to you how much buffer you want to leave.

I also has another 2 week trip after I submitted my application, and I don't think that matters.
