Hello, my fiancé and I are considering a spousal sponsorship route. The issue is we dated in 2018-2019 when I received a departure order from Canada for missing my refugee hearing date because I was in between places. We lost touch and didn’t reconcile until 6 years after I left the country. I just wanted to know what my chances are of getting approved and how to address the long gap in relationship since I was in a rehab for substance abuse. Thank you. We talked to an immigration lawyer and they said the chances were refusal based on general sentiment. I was given a departure order which doesn’t require and ARC but I don’t know if that will affect the outcome considering I’m from a highly scrutinized country.
