Can I renew my RTD while waiting to get PR status?

Hi guys, my RTD will expire on April 2027. I’m planning to apply for a renewal on October 2026. I’ll probably not going get my PR card then. There is a study visa from Italy (which will be expire on Dec 2026) on my current RTD. How should I proceed?

Also, submitted my PR application on the beginning of July 2025 but they haven’t asked me to give fingerprints. All my friends have been asked to give their fingerprints after couple months of their submission date.

you should provide a written explanation for applying early. Since yours will have about 6 months remaining in October, that particular 12-month restriction. Your existing RTD will be surrendered with the new RTD application and regarding the Italian visa is still valid and you need to use it, explain this clearly when applying and consider contacting the Italian consulate about transferring/reissuing the visa to the new RTD.
