It is not. Moreover, it can be tricky and requires some patience - there's plenty of discussions about how to create it and how to "enter space after the last name and after the number of applicants"
AFAIK the only actual difference is that PA will receive updates to the accounts instead of emails. E.g. instead of receiving a BIL to the email, PA will get "you have new correspondence" with the actual BIL in gckey.
I am the sponsor and have created my IRCC account. I was able to link the principal applicant’s application successfully. However, when I try to link the sponsor(myself) application in the same account, the system cannot find it. I am using the combination of UCI and application number.
Does anyone know why this might be happening? Instead GCKey, I use my bank info to login. I don't think this makes any difference, does it? Thanks

I believe you can only link the application to one account on gckey. However you can make trackers for both the sponsor and PA.
You have one application and you already linked it
You can create trackers for both as they are different (sponsor's eligibility for the sponsor vs everything else for the PA)

1. I created a Trucker for myself (Sponsor), but I can't create a Trucker for my wife (Principal Applicant). It says it can't find the application.
My question is which UCI to use to register the Trucker for the applicant. (I used my previous PR portal to submit the application )
2. Can I link the application to my(sponsor's) GCKey? I tried a couple of times in different way but it keeps saying "can't find application."

For gckey use the application number and family name method instead and use the PA info. Make sure you put 2 for the number of people (sponsor and PA, unless you have dependents). Once gckey is linked it will show the PA's UCI. The one from AOR is the sponsor's. Then you can use the UCI from gckey to make the PA tracker.
I used a different type of biometrics location since I'm in the US so I can't be sure it's exactly the same but they gave me the biometrics letter back that they had stamped to show that I had completed it. However I didn't have to actually scan it in, it's sent in electronically. For me it was showing up immediately in gckey, in the time it took to walk back to my car. It was completed in the tracker also by the next day.
