Isn't it a requirement for super visa?
When I applied, it said:
  • You do not need a medical exam. We will send you a message if this changes.
Then after the biometrics were updated, I saw this:

If no medical they likely only received a regular TRV.

Update!

I asked for clarification using the web form. I don't know if it is related, but yesterday I received a medical exam request. This was after the passport was already dispatched to IRCC.

Anyway, will take the medical soon and see what happens. Will update when I know more.

You need a medical for a supervisa so approval was given in error.

Yes. That is obvious. The question is how did they approve the visa when the medical was not complete. Now we have already dispatched the passport and will have to do the medical with another form of ID.

She was approved for a TRV until you submitted clarification on the supervisa. IRCC can decide just to issue TRV instead.

Sharing timeline for my mother in India:

Applied - December 24th
Biometrics - December 27th
Decided to do Medical upfront - December 31st; submitted via webform on January 3rd and receipt confirmed by IRCC on January 6th
Passport Request and Decision - January 13th; passport sent on January 15th via VFS

I was worried by the super quick decision as I was prepared to wait for at least 4months if not the standard 6months wait time. Good to know someone else also had a similar experience.

I will update you all on if she got visitor or super visa when I find out.

My understanding is that since the application for regular visitor visa and the super visa program is the same, if you don't provide medical and/or one-year medical insurance or for some reason don't satisfy the officer, the processing office can simply just issue the regular visitor visa if you are eligible for that.
