I created this topic to share my knowledge and experience with all of you. I will try to answer some important questions and concerns regarding travel as a Convention Refugee or a Protected Person living in Canada.

I’m not a lawyer, just a person who likes clarity. I am very proud to call Canada my new home. When IRCC finishes one stage or moves the file internally, the system often flips to “Not Applicable” temporarily before the next stage starts.

Are you living in Quebec? Because most of Jan2023 applicants already got PR.

No, in Ontario, my background check and my kids' have already passed, but my wife worked at an embassy one time, and her security clearance has been stuck for a long time and MP advised due to working for embassy.

I think either they are finished with your screening or requested a new check because this message appears when some of your steps were done while the others are not. Did they ask for a comprehensive screening (A34)? how long is she in the screening?

Yes, A34. In January 2024, her criminality passed and medical passed. The last notes requesed in October, 2025 showed her "security pending," and yesterday, "Background Not Applicable" was found on the portal.

Usually, it takes 13–24 months to finish this screening. The start date is under this sub-activity (not the main date of your security screening) when IRCC requests CBSA. In your case, it most likely completed, which is why you see ‘Not applicable’. When did it start? I guess it is in mid 2024.

I checked the sub activity, it shows received by CBSA on Jan 30, 2024, and A34 Comprehensive.
