Hello everyone,

This forum has been incredibly helpful—a huge thank you to everyone here!

My parents (country: India) received their Super Visas a few years ago. However, the validity was only granted until their passport expiration date (April 2026). They recently received their new passports and I would like to renew or extend their Super Visa status.

I have checked the IRCC website but haven't been able to find specific information regarding Super Visa renewals or extensions in this situation.

Could someone please redirect me to the right resource or provide a step-by-step guide on how to handle this?

It is a new application and applied for when outside Canada. There is no such thing as renewal or extension. If in Canada, they apply for a visitor record to stay in Canada. Need medical, insurance and you need to meet LICO.

This is not a family sponsorship issue so read through the many threads on supervisas in the "Visitor" section.

Because it doesn’t fall under either . It’s a new application done outside of Canada
And it’s not a sponsorship . It’s not permanent. Eventually they’ll be told to re establish their ties with their home country

As others have written already, it's not normally extendable, except by applying for visitor records while in Canada (which is technically a different type of application).

Is this like truncated or something? How many years total was the super visa actually good for, from start the end? I'm just wondering if the period was shorter than usual because of the passport expiring early or something.

If this is indeed the case, then pay close attention to the stamp. I've seen a report on this forum, https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-i...-and-passport-expiry-date.552311/post-7626051 where the visa expired when the passport expired, but the stamp proved that the CBSA officer gave the parent the full duration of the supervisa to stay in Canada. Also related to this case would be https://www.ircc.canada.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=1650 "Even though you can use a valid visa in an old passport, we recommend that you get a new visa in your valid passport to avoid delays at the border."
