Received PPR yesterday asking to submit passports for stamping. Wife is pregnant due on July 12. Would it be better to:

A) Send passports now, get the COPR and stamping, wait for baby to be born and then tell IRCC about newborn; OR
B) Tell IRCC now about wife pregnant and needing to update application in July and waiting for their instructions.

What are the risks or benefits of each strategy? If we go with A) do we need to get fresh stamps (my wife and I) after baby is born and included in the application or can we use the same ones? Would we need new COPRs?

Hi, I'm exactly in the same boat. I received my PPR in this month, just 2 days before the birth of my newborn child. I have raised a webform with child's birth certificate and other necessary documents. Have you got your updated PPR yet? Could you please share your timeline for newborn addition and revised PPR. TIA

@makintosh - We spoke with an attorney who told us following Option A is not advised as the visas foils are invalidated once we notify IRCC of the newborn. So we followed Option B. Here's the timeline. Can you share yours?

PPR Received: 6/5/2025
Newborn Born On: 7/7/2025
IRCC Responds via Email with List of Forms and Documents to Submit: 7/22/2025
Submitted Documents: 7/29/2025

Since then, it's been radio silence. I've called and they've said documents have been received and are being reviewed, and have asked to sit tight, and wait. Last update in the Notes is from 7/22/2025.

Thank you for responding to my query. 3+ months wait without any update is tedious.... I hope and pray that you get your updated PPR soon.

My timeline is as follows:

Birth of Newborn: Oct 07, 2025
PPR Received: Oct 09, 2025
Raised Webform: Oct, 24, 2025

I haven't received any correspondence from IRCC yet except the auto-reply, waiting for ADR to submit additional documents, medicals and submit PR fee etc. Finger crossed!

@makintosh @hpmn2019 I am in a very similar situation. Need your advice folks. Please.

CoPr received : Jan 9, 2025
Child Born: June 9, 2025
Web Form Raised: 11th August 2025

No response yet. Our CoPr's are expiring on the 9th of Jan 2026. Should we travel or wait.

Your CoPRs and visa foils (if any) are no longer valid if your family composition has changed, and can no longer be used to be admitted as a permanent resident. We spoke with an attorney, he confirmed this. Did they revert back asking you to submit a few new forms, and pay fee for child?

No they haven't replied back. It has been more than 4 months. Just the auto-reply

Hello everyone,

Here is an update to my application. IRCC revoked the counterfoils and tracker stopped showing existing COPR document numbers on the tracker. Further they responded and advised to get medical exam for the existing family members as well as the newly born. The reason they provided for the new medical exam is, the results must remain valid for six months at the issuance of COPR.
We provided the new medical exam along with all the required documents i-e, IMM forms, passport of the newborn, birth cert, family registration certificate etc and paid the fee for the new dependent. After around two weeks, we got new PPR email and finally got the COPR last week.

@Wilfred Vivek what did you submit in the web form? What is your Tracker account showing at the moment? (COPR number etc)
I had selected "Add a Document to your application" and in the tracker, it says application status - Closed.
I haven't got any reply yet or acknowledgement except for the auto-responder. Don't see anything about the web form.

I mean which document did you upload? e-g, I uploaded Child's birth certificate and all other necessary documents while raising the web form.

Since your current COPR is expiring soon, I'd recommend uploading each and every document showing child birth proof, pay the PR fee of dependent C$260 and upload it's receipt along with the other documents to the web form. If you still don't get any response within 10 days, try contacting a RCIC to put your case.

Thanks a lot for the responses @makintosh

I uploaded both on two occasions first when the birth certificate came in and the 2nd I attached the passport along with the web form. I will also try to pay the fee and try to upload its receipt.

In the worst case scenario, do you suggest flying before CoPR expires?

Additional note: Our application is being processed outside Canada, in India.

I had called the RCIC and checked and they mentioned they haven't received any web form requests and it must have been stuck or to be processed in India (New Delhi).

As another respected member mentioned in the thread above, IRCC invalidates the existing COPRs in case there is any change in the family composition. So, in case you still want to travel, how can you travel without the visa issued to your newborn? In case you want to travel solo, it may add a lot of complication into your otherwise straightforward case. So, keeping in mind IRCC rules, I won't recommend you travelling.

I'd recommend you to do the following asap;

Go to the web form and write the following;

Dear Visa Officer,

I am writing to inform you of a recent change in my family composition. My wife and I have recently been blessed with a [baby boy or baby girl], and I would like to request that he/she be added as a dependent to my completed Permanent Residence application.
My application has been approved already and I have received the visa counterfoil and COPR doc for the existing family members; however, I understand that it is essential to update my application before I finally travel to Canada. Therefore, I kindly request that my new dependent child be added to my application and his/her visa and COPR be processed.
