Friend,

I wrote a letter to my MP and to Immigration Minister Marc Miller to voice my support for reuniting refugee families.

While many will celebrate with their loved ones on February 17, huge delays in refugee family reunification will continue to prevent thousands of people across Canada from doing the same.

This Family Day, the CCR calls for urgent action to reunite refugee families.

Whether we were born here or came to Canada seeking refuge, we all want the same for our families: to have them safe and close by. This is true for particular reasons for refugees, who have experienced traumatic events and been forced to flee their homes. Even with refugee status in Canada, they can’t start rebuilding their lives when their spouse and children are far away, often themselves in precarious situations, perhaps in a war zone.

It is unconscionable that as a country we are making refugees wait more than 4 and a half years to be reunited with their immediate family, and this is after they have been accepted as refugees.

Canadians overwhelmingly support welcoming refugees and want better for our friends and neighbours waiting to be reunited with their families. Our government’s actions must reflect this support.

Thanks!
Just so you know that Family Day is not a federal holiday and only a statutory holiday in a few provinces. In Manitoba it is Louis Riel Day and in PEI it is Islander Day. Nice to mention Family Day but nothing to do with the Government of Canada. Also the 2025 budget was just tabled with the intent to stabilize immigration.

Can’t you just translate it if it’s not English or French? Why you have to nothorized?
They asked for us for proof of relationship too. Months ago. My partner in Canada with me and we got married here.

Hi Melsi. I also submitted my PR application in March 2023 and received my ecopr in November. My daughter submitted her medical exams last year and this year, but there haven't been any updates since.

Thank you for your response, we are in same boat i think, I submitted my pr march 2023, and I got my pr card December 1st, and today I received the pre arrival for my overseas dependent, so I don't know what is the next steps and how long would be taken to get the pass request, so fingers crossed

I am the principal applicant in Canada and received my EcoPR on November 14th. Since I only have one minor daughter in the country of origin, I wrote to the IRCC last night requesting expedited processing, and fortunately, I received her PPR today.

Yes, my daughter is in Singapore. My husband and I are in Canada, so as a minor separated from her parents, she can apply for expedited processing. PPR stands for Passport Request; she can come once she submits her passport for visa stamping.

When you received medical request for your minor? After ecopr or Final decision
