PGWP extension because of passport expiry

Hi All..Hope you are doing good.

We applied for my spouse's PGWP and my work permit extension in June 2023. Though we were eligible for 3 years of PGWP, we got 4 months less due to my spouse's passport expiry date.
Now, we have applied for new passport and received it. Can we go for PGWP extension? If yes, what is the process for it.

If you have your new passport and when you got your PGWP it says you can extend based on expiry.

Stop working as your PGWP expired and you are out of status. Prepare to leave. You don't need extension because it is now December 2025. So it would be refused because it would have only been extended until November 2024 and that time has passed. How long did you expect to get when you applied via paper?

Hi. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear. I applied for extension in April of 2025 because my PGWP was only issued up to May of 2025 instead of November 2025 due to passport expiring. I was advised by IRCC to apply for passport renewal and extension. Due to processing times, I just received refusal because eligibility expired in November 2025, but I applied long before this. I was expecting to get the remaining 6 months of my PWGP back.

What were reasons for refusal when you applied via paper. Right so you would have only gotten a PGWP extended until November 2025 which has now passed so no need to extend now. You got your three years. You would have only had PGWP extended until November 2025. Stop working and you are out of status.

Reason for refusal is being out of eligibility. This is what I am saying, I did not get my three years as I stopped working and went home to wait on a decision as processing time was taking longer than expected. They just emailed me for biometrics on November 1, which means I would have only gotten 3 weeks extension? For people like me who go home, is there nothing that can be done? It makes no sense to have PGWP extension due to passport expiry and such long processing times.

So you left Canada when you could have stayed and worked. There was no reason to stop working and you're no longer eligible to extend. Get a good lawyer for consultation. Do you even have a TRV to return to Canada.

Yes, I left and yes, I do. I am from The Bahamas - not India. So I am eligible to return on eTA (visitor visa). I will look into getting a good lawyer. Thanks for your help.
