Hello house,
I am preparing to apply for a Canadian study permit and would like to know whether being HIV-positive automatically makes an applicant medically inadmissible, even when the individual is stable and on effective treatment. Should I be concerned about how my HIV status may affect my application? Additionally, are there known cases of applicants in similar circumstances who were successfully granted a study permit?

But respectfully, How do you mean i have to pass the medical when i clearly wouldn’t pass it since i already know my status.

Have you taken the medical or not? HIV is not a reason to fail. If you failed the medical then may be for another reason like chest xray shows TB.

I haven’t taken the medicals, I’m asking ahead ! Perhaps if i should not accept the offer from the school considering my status and maybe just consider a different country

You cannot lie about your medical condition to the panel physician.

HIV is not a reason to fail the medical.

It can be an issue for a study permit but for PR is not typically an issue if well controlled and no other health issues. What type of healthcare plans (private or public) international students qualify for varies by province. The ability to access care, especially in smaller provinces, has been considered in some cases. HIV care may be pretty accessible even if in smaller centres. Many of the private health plans have a pretty low cap when it comes to things like prescription drugs so that can be a consideration. There may also be concern that OP may be at higher risk of claiming asylum depending on country of citizenship. The application would likely be viewed differently as a student applying to a PhD program in a large urban centre then for a diploma from a college in a small community. There is still a high chance of approval and if denied likely to be related to more than the medical. OP doesn’t have a choice they must declare their HIV status but proving that you have a low viral load and are on a treatment regimen helps.
