Hi everyone,

My PR application under the OINP Masters Graduate Stream is currently in progress, and I am residing in Canada. Unfortunately, my sister passed away yesterday, and I am deeply heartbroken.

I wasn’t able to travel to attend the funeral due to concerns about my immigration status and potential complications with my PR application.

I wanted to ask if there’s any possible way to request an expedited review or processing of my PR application in such compassionate circumstances. Has anyone experienced something similar or knows the proper way to communicate this situation to IRCC or OINP?

Any guidance or suggestions would be sincerely appreciated.

Thank you,

Sorry for your loss. no way to expedite because all you need is a valid TRV to re-enter. If you don't have valid TRV then that is what you will need. You don't need PR to travel with TRV.

When did you apply for PR.

No, IRCC will not expedite PR for this reason (or really any other reason).

What is stopping you from traveling for a visit to your home countr? There should be no reason why you can't do that as long as you have a valid eTA or TRV to return.

I'm also very sorry for your loss.

Thanks for your reply.

I applied for Permanent Residence (PR) on September 02, 2024.

I currently hold a valid work permit and a valid Temporary Resident Visa (TRV).

I am hesitant to travel because if a final decision on my PR application is made while I am outside of Canada, my status may change, which could cause problems upon my return.

Really no issue to travel with valid TRV but your decision. No way to expedite your PR process. You should get within the next 3-6 months.
