Hi Everyone,

I wanted to see if others have done something similar.

I submitted my Alberta Worker EOI and used a lower WES ECA, even though I also have an IQAS ECA for the same credential. I chose WES because it assessed my foreign education as a 2-year diploma, which allowed me to claim Alberta education points (I completed a diploma in Alberta and hold a PGWP).
  • IQAS assessed it as a Bachelor’s degree
  • WES assessed it as a 2-year diploma
  • I also completed a diploma at an Alberta institution and hold a PGWP.
  • Based on the AAIP points grid, using WES allows me to claim:
    • 4 points for diploma
    • 10 points for Alberta education
I was invited this month, and I submitted my full AAIP application. I included a Letter of Explanation (LOE) where I was fully transparent, stating that I have both ECAs, explaining why I chose WES for AAIP, and clarifying that I also have IQAS. My goal was to avoid any misinterpretation and show that I’m being honest and strategic.

Has anyone else used this approach and received a nomination? Did AAIP accept your LOE and ECA choice without issue? Would love to hear your experiences or advice!

Any insights, experiences, or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Why does a lower ECA matter for the EOI points grid?
So for me I don't have 2 WES but my issue is related. I just put a post about it but I am also putting it here

"Hi, my issue is super serious. I got a PFL today from Alberta so please if anyone has any advice please help me.
I completed Bachelors from India and studied Post-Graduate Certificate from Ontario. I moved to Alberta for job. Recently I got into Tech Pathway draw. In AAIP if we do Post-Graduate, we can claim points for its prerequisite. For my Canadian program the prerequisite is either diploma or degree. I claimed the Bachelors points. The AAIP officer today told me that as the prerequisite is either diploma or degree and not just degree, I can't claim degree(Bachelors) points for my post-graduate education in Canada. Can anyone help me with this? What can I show as a document that can convience the officer? I am super worried. Please anyone has any advice, please help me with that."

As per the grid, you only get points for Canadian education. 6 outside Alberta, 10 inside Canada. If through EE, your education should match your EOI that you submitted. To match you should only claim a points for education for a diploma (not foreign degree) in both profiles.

So if above the cut off without the points then no issue. Get a lawyer who specializes in Alberta immigration to draft a response.

You think Post-Graduate Certificate is considered higher than Bachelors? Ultimately we get points for highest education. I said that Bachelors is my highest education.
If Bachelors is prerequisite for Post-Graduate then I can claim Bachelors points if not then I can claim certificate points.
