Hello,

I am confused in regards to the upfront medical exam needed for SOWP.
Context, my wife entered Canada 5 months ago using an eTA, her visitor status is expiring in a month.
We have received the AOR for her spousal sponsorship application, but not the medical examination and we were intending to apply for a SOWP so she can work and extend her stay.

She is from a designated country that requires medical. Am I supposed to just apply for the OWP and wait for the PR to request medical? Or do I have to do an upfront medical now and then try to link it back to my PR so I don't do it twice? Seems like an oversight honestly.

You can apply for OWP after AOR. She will get a request for the medical.

You can apply for OWP after AOR. She will get a request for the medical.
But the OWP states: "If you are staying for more than 6 months and have live in a designated country, you require a medical exam"
Which is the case for her, this being an extension means her stay will be longer than 6 months.

Should I try applying for OWP without a medical? Or do the medical and then try to attach it back through webform to the PR Sponsorship application?
I don't want to have to do medical twice

Complete the medical now and then you can use it for the sponsorship application.
