I have around 11 months and 1 week of foreign work experience at a major IT company (one of the Big Five). I’ve disclosed this in all my previous applications (study permit, PGWP, and TRV) and have reference letters and pay stubs to support it. This was a combination of two different stints (both eligible as work experience demanded under Express Entry) - both at the same company though.
I’ve been preparing for my PR application for a while. My IELTS scores are maxed, my police certificate is in process, and I’ve been working in Canada for over 10 months. When I enter my foreign work in the Express Entry profile, I get points for a full year — meaning I’ll reach around 539 CRS points next month (November). As a result, I was looking forward to the draw that would come out in the first week of November.
However, when it comes to the actual number of hours worked (taking a maximum eligible 30 hours per week), I wouldn't be able to provide pay stubs/reference letters to prove completion of 52 weeks. This is heartbreaking to say the least.
However, once I quit my software engineering job in February, I did another internship (paid, full-time and eligible as 'express entry work experience') at a different firm. I was not enjoying the back-office work that my software role required, and hence, wanted to do a business degree and switch to people-facing roles. In fact, I'm a management consultant rn - which is what I had envisioned before I moved to Canada. Point being - I did the internship in a Founder's Office Growth role (to be able to see the business-side of ventures).
This internship was from April 10 - May 15 (at this company - OfExperiences
). If I combine this with my software engineering experience, I certainly meet the requirements for 1560 hours. However, I never mentioned this experience in any of my previous applications.
For my study permit, I couldn't have mentioned it since I applied in February and had received my study permit by March 20. However, I could have mentioned it in my PGWP application/TRV application. I just never thought of it - first, because of my mentality from corporate screenings (mentioning you worked at a company for only a month is a big red flag), and secondly because I didn't have the foresight into how a "year of work" is calculated. Also, since both the applications only have space for 3 experiences, I mentioned the two stints from my software engineering experience, and another stint at a part-time job in Canada.
I remember, while applying, all I thought was "Let's copy whatever is on my study permit and then append work experiences I might've had in Canada".
I still have the entry on my bank statements from all those years ago, proving the income I made as a result of my (one month of) work at that venture. What should I do?
Please understand that I will drop down to 501 if I cannot claim this legitimate experience. 539 to 501 is already bad enough - plus, 501 is a score that CEC draws would never see in my opinion.
Please ask for any questions/clarifications I may have missed above
