My spouse got the P1 mail today.
Applicant in Quebec. Application started in November 2021. Dependents have not yet received any mail at all, but we're keeping fingers crossed.
Are the dependents in Canada ? Are they protected persons ?

Hello everyone,

I’m reaching out for advice regarding my family’s delayed Permanent Residency (PR) application with IRCC. We are protected persons, and our application has now been pending for longer than expected. Here are some details about our situation:

- Status: Protected Persons
- Application Submitted: August 2019
- Request for Medical: June 2022 (the time frame for the first medical we did in 2017 as refugee claimants had already elapsed that’s why we were requested to go for another medical)
- Medical Status: Passed

My dad who is the primary applicant had to have another admissibility hearing in Dec 2022 (political asylum)but he passed that hearing and he was released and no longer seen as inadmissible.

We have received pre-arrival letter in October 2024 which is weird because we’ve been residing in Canada since 2017 when we came as refugee claimants.

Our PR application status shows in process.

Given our status as protected persons, I’m wondering if anyone here has experienced similar delays or has any insights into how IRCC handles these cases. We have written countless letters to IRCC and even spoken to countless IRCC agents; some say there’s nothing else for us to do than to keep on waiting ; some said we’ll get it soon.

It’s very limiting not having our PR and it’s mentally derailing; everyone I know that came as refugees claimants in 2017 have gotten their citizenship.

Our last option is Order of Mandamus but we’re scared IRCC will be rushed and forced to take a decision that will not favour us.

Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated, as we’re feeling quite anxious about the prolonged processing time.

Thank you in advance for your help!
UPDATE: Mandamus filed August 20, approval received Oct 20. All processes and portal done and completed. Now waiting for e-Copr

PR granted after 6 years of submission
