Yeah, the difference is filing a single application together means they'd make you wait until hers is done for you both to take the oath together. So had you done that, both of you would still be waiting, instead of just her.

Actually, 5 months is astonishingly, shockingly good. I myself have already been waiting five months and still have LPP in progress. And the official tracker has said that the average time has gone up from 10 to 11 months now (it's at https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...vices/application/check-processing-times.html if you're curious).

Hmm, she changed her address but you didn't? I wonder if that affected the times or made the app a "non-routine" one.
when I checked the notes I see it was transferred to Edmonton, but there was still movement. Figured that after the video interview to varify then it would have been soon. 17 months later and still nothing

My wife and I submitted a joint application for Canadian citizenship. Her application has progressed to the final stage and is currently awaiting the Citizenship Ceremony. Meanwhile, mine has been stuck in the "Background Verification" stage for over a year.

We’re starting to feel that the delay in my application might be preventing hers from being finalized, even though she likely could have received her citizenship months ago. We're now considering requesting IRCC to unlink our applications, but we're unsure whether this could help speed things up for her or potentially complicate the process further.

Can anyone shed some light on this?
Would unlinking the applications allow the other applicant to move forward independently? Any insights or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
I'm in the same boat - tried to separate the file twice, but was denied, the reason - they don't separate it while background check is in progress

That's interesting. Are both of your backgrounds still in progress? I wonder if OP's wife will have a better chance since OP's wife's BG check is complete.

I'm exactly in the same boat as OP - my application has background In Progress, my wife's and kids' - background is complete, only Oath is pending

Wow. So even though theirs' is complete, IRCC won't accept the request to unlink ... that seems to be unexpected considering the earlier replies in this thread. I'd consider it hard to justify too (it'd be different if there were multiple members BG checks still in progress but that isn't the case here - so why hold everyone up for just the one?). I wonder if this is a new or recent change in policy.

perhaps, OP should try to send split request anyway, everyones case is different...
