I’m currently in Canada on an open work permit that I received as a dependent when my spouse was on a study permit. Recently, my spouse completed study and now holds a work permit instead of a study permit.

My questions are:
  1. Can I extend my open work permit even if spouse currently does not have a job?
  2. I have been working in Canada for almost a year — is there any other pathway for me to extend my work permit or maintain my status here?

Any advice or personal experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Post further questions under foreign workers, not Express Entry.

1. No. Your spouse needs a TEER 0 or 1 job or one of the eligible NOCs listed.
2. LMIA with closed work permit. LMIA from employer proves that no Canadian can do the job. Should be high wage.
