Hello! My wife has a trip coming up on Oct 27, but her PR card is expired. I submitted the renewal today, but based on discussions in other threads, it looks like she might not receive the new card before her trip. She will be outside Canada for about two months. Can I mail her PR card so she can return, or is there a better solution? I’m also not sure what would happen if the card got lost in the mail.

Yes, she can. Note some carriers/couriers don't want to take official docs (this may depend on destination country), and there are rumours some don't like packages with RFID chips (which I believe PR cards have, not certain).

If it's lost - she would have to apply for a PRTD.

BTW if she's in compliance with the residency obligation and no other issues, it may come more quickly. So fingers crossed.

Hey, I believe she meets the compliance requirements. We moved here 7 years ago and got our PR in 2020. Her PR expired this March because we were planning to apply for her citizenship (I already have mine, but she still needs to complete the CELPIP and isn’t confident yet). Over the past 5 years, we’ve traveled but spent only about 250 days outside Canada. She worked for about 1 year (2 years ago), but I’ve filed her taxes every year. For residency proof, I included her last 3 NOAs and 2 lease agreements. I’m not sure if any of this could affect the processing time, but at least we haven’t requested any name changes or other updates that might cause delays.
