Ordered CBSA notes some time ago and received them but it didn't really tell me anything I didn't already know, namely a background check on one individual was taking a ridiculous length of time to complete. The CBSA agent was unable to provide any other information on this.

Only recently was this finally completed, and P1 arrived on April. 24th, 2025 followed by P2 on May 8th, 2025 and of course we are still waiting for the actual PR cards.

Original date of our application was August. 5th, 2022. This security/background check which was holding up our application being approved lasted for over one year.

Hello Everyone,

We have ordered notes for our family member whose citizenship application is in progress.

Background check is in progress. Criminality has passed, Security is in progress.

The security notes were erased before being sent to us.

Can we order CSIS and CBSA notes to track the progress? Would we be able to see the data or it will be erased the same way GCMS notes were?
is ur background cleared now ?

I recently applied for gcms notes on a citizenship app from both CBSA and IRCC.

I recommend doing this for those whose files are stuck for a long time. While I didn't learn anything earth-shattering, it did clarify some aspects.

Here's why I point this out though: IRCC and CBSA have similar approaches to not disclosing information, but not identical - although I don't know whether this was the specific officer or just workflow. By comparing the two, I was able to find out some tidbits: a 'triage' classification, a comment or two (one referring to something possibly important - although probably not), an oblique reference to a reason for triage, etc. Basically parts that had been left blank in one and not the other (all cases where IRCC held back more than CBSA, I think).

Also, the IRCC document had fields on the pages where info had been redacted referencing the parts of the act that allowed withholding info (i.e. S. 21), which made sleuthing and comparing a bit easier.

That said, all I really found out was that the delay right now is security clearance from another agency in government (and the delay so far is not that long).

How long it will more take and how did you know it will not delay more ?

It took 30 days for each. Sometimes they will delay for an additional 30 days (notifying you). Some get longer delays - I've never had any problem.

Government states quite clearly it won't delay, it's done by different teams.

Small note of importance: keep in mind it is QUITE difficult to figure out what it all means, and to be honest, I'll never know what it all means either. If you're not comfortable with that, it may not be worth it. And I wouldn't do it for 'normal' (short) delays or just the heck of it.

For those that are going to see lawyers about their cases (for whatever reason), I'd recommend though - those that work on immigration cases should be able to get some information from them, and will likely ask for them anyway.
