My PR card expires in a week and I can see the process is taking around a month now. I will be submitting the application tomorrow via online portal.
I don't plan to travel but is this going to cause me any problem as I wait for the renewed card? Do I have to apply for any extension of any sort that allows me to stay here?

No extension is needed. No problem of staying in Canada.

Hi

If you have met the 730-day PR requirement, there will be no problem.

A permanent resident is not required to have / maintain a PR card. The card is not the status.

The card IS required and/or useful for many things - most of all for travel. Still recommended to have it and renew it.

But not renewing it on time / having one available just in case is a matter of convenience for the PR, not a requirement.
