Hi all, I wish to understand the process and impact of the dependent child arriving to Canada with Tourist Visa before receiving PPR/COPR.

I applied on 22nd May, I have received Sponsorship Eligibility (9 July) and still waiting for medical request to come in. I suspect there are good chances that the COPR might not come before November/December. I and my wife wish to bring our toddler to Canada latest by September to give time to adjust before winters start. I have heard that IRCC fast tracks TRV requests for applications with AOR and can expect a result within 2 weeks.

My question is that in case I get TRV timely, what do I need to do post (or even before) toddler's arrival to ensure that PPR request comes in Canada and what will I need to do to get the COPR stamped in Canada. How does the process change and what additional steps that I need to do? I want to ensure that it doesn't impact approval time or we having to go back to home country for PPR request. Any risk anticipated?

The concern arise from the fact that if I contact IRCC to update PA's new address in Canada using Webform or update them about the situation, it might take atleast a month.

Go ahead and apply for the TRV now and then decide when/if it gets approved.

If approved and child travels to Canada, you advise of change of address and that the child will be in Canada. Then when approved, you should get information on how to do virtual landing (or if you get PPR instead, you will get instructions on how to advise them that the child is in Canada which leads to virtual landing).

The only risk is that it /might/ take longer for virtual landing - although it could be faster.

The only implications of that of importance for a toddler is that if delayed, it will take longer to get PR status and health insurance. If the child stays abroad utnil COPR, they will become a PR as soon as they land - with eligibility for health insurance either immediate or within a short period (depends on province, I think).

I don't follow enough to even guess at likelihood or timeframes.

I had applied for my daughter’s TRV on Jun 19, 2025 with AOR from the sponsorship application. I’m yet to receive an update on the application. I have sent multiple webforms to expedite it without luck. So, 2 weeks processing timeline isn’t accurate. Also, don’t forget to add the stamping time to it which is additional 3-4 weeks.
My child is only a few months old, so I couldn’t use the new portal which supposedly has faster turnaround times because certain processes get fast tracked due to the use of AI.

Hi guys today i completed the medical of my daughter i applied in feb mid, any idea how much more time?
Also as my daughter is in canada what are the next steps ? Will they ask for passport or send pr card ? If they ask for passport how will she complete landing

If you provided her address as in Canada or updated it once she arrived, they will do a virtual landing. You can look for into about this process in the forum.

Hi @sura468,

I think one month of wait time between AOR and Sponsorship eligibility is normal. I received AOR on 14th June and Sponsorship Eligibility on 9th July, and have been waiting for Medical since then. Hopefully update on your next step is on its way.

Based on the timelines shared by people for any PR application, applications do not necessarily move forward in a First-In First-Out manner with a set duration between stages.

Though each day separated from loved ones seems long, if it’s any consolation, the overall processing timelines for Dependent Child applications still seem more promising than some other types of PR applications.

So hang in there bud, hope yours moves forward soon!

Hey @PRforbaby, Do you think sending a Webform for taking an update on the application does any good? I remember you saying you sent a Webform when you didn't receive your medical request. For my application, It has been around a month since Sponsorship Eligibility but I haven't received medical request yet. I am thinking of sending a Webform but don't want to add on the process delay with a Webform. Did your receive any response of your Webform and do you think it helped you get medical request?

Though I did send a webform because of the same reason as yours, I am inclined to think the medical request was NOT a result of it.
The reason being - the request was received shortly after submitting the webform, whereas the response (a generic one) to the webform was only received days later.
