Thanks. Has anyone applied for an extension? How did it work?

SOWP for spouses being processed is relatively new so there won’t have been many people who have been able to apply. There shouldn’t be an issue if you apply before the first SOWP expires. I would attach a letter explaining that you are still waiting for spousal sponsorship application to be finish being processed and are applying for an SOWP extensions based on the same grounds.

Congrats. Did you have to redo the medical?
I'm 1.5 years in waiting for my approval... so am hoping it won't take longer than another year. It's soul-destroying tbh.

Im a July 2023 applicant, my medical expired in February 2025, and they updated it in this June 2025 when they sent me the P1, without me having to redo it.
That's interesting. Did you apply from inside Canada originally or are you an outland application? Because when I phoned IRCC about this a couple of months ago saying my medical had expired and would I be expected to get a new one done, they said yes I would (because I'm outland application - even though I'm currently residing in Canada).

Oh, im inland, when i called them (after a year complete silence of background check process and a medical expired for like 4 months already)they only told me that everything is in process, and they will send me a letter if they need more info. So they might, they might not, to be honest i think they will not request it from you if you residing in Canada. If you did your medical here, it should be good for 5 years, thats what i was told when i did it.
