Hello,

While reading the article “Re-engineering the Startup Visa: Canada’s economic challenges require more global entrepreneurs and investors”, I had an idea that I’ve already started acting on—and I hope you’ll join me.

I’ve begun posting on X (Twitter), tagging Canadian newspapers like The Globe and Mail, National Post, Vancouver Sun, Calgary Herald, and Toronto Star, to talk about the Start-Up Visa program, especially the long wait times. The goal is to draw attention to the difficulties many of us are facing and to highlight how bureaucracy is putting the program at risk.

If more of us do the same, it might help make our voices heard and push for real change.

  • According to Gunness & Associates, citing “latest data from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)”, 420 permanent residents received PR status through the Start‑up Visa program in the first eight months of 2025—representing a 189.6% increase over the 145 admissions during the same period in 2024 .

It’s good news, especially considering the quota of 2,000, which means many remain available.

I doubt the numbers because all of 2024 has been 5595 up from 1460 in 2023, and we’re only in the seventh month (beginning of July).

Could you plz share the link.

Thanks

How it was for first eight months, if July is seventh month?

Even 420 PRs is too small for 6-8 months, I heard they have 2000 PR's quota per year.

I have doubts about these numbers because the only confirmed figure we have is the total number of PR admissions under the Start-Up Visa (SUV) program for 2024, which stands at 5,595. Therefore, the claim of only 145 admissions in the first half of 2024 seems implausible. It’s highly unlikely that only 145 were admitted in the first six months, while the remaining 5,450 (5,595 – 145) would be admitted in the second half. The distribution appears unrealistic and raises concerns about the accuracy of the data.

At this point, we’re all like miners without helmets — stumbling in the dark, hoping the light at the end of the tunnel, SUV applicants are stuck in a real-life suspense thriller — “Waiting for PR: The NeverEnding Sequel.” Let’s just hope the second half of 2025 has a plot twist we’ll actually like!

Till then let’s share what all information is available to keep us hopeful
