Bali & Vietnam on RTD

I recently travelled to Thailand with my RTD and the process was smooth.

I wish to travel to Bali Indonesia and Vietnam, but I'm unsure if they would issue a visa on RTD. I'm an Afghan national.

Has anyone been to these countries?

Indonesia won't honour RTD's. Not sure about Vietnam.

Vietnam, unfortunately, does not accept Canadian refugee travel documents. Refer to IMPORTANT NOTES > note #9.

Vietnam is a no-go. Indonesia is also a no-go. Malaysia is subject to a review before they issue a visa. Thailand's Visa Process was really easy, what other countries have e-visa availability on RTD with an easy process.?

Malaysia is possible if you have RTD + PR card. If you don't have a PR card yet, then Malaysia is not possible.

From what others have shared and my own research, below are the only countries that Refugees with RTD who don't have PR or a valid visa from US/UK/Japan/Schengen can travel visa-free (as of 21 May 2025);

3 - Hungary - Reference
4 - Slovakia - Reference
5 - Slovenia - Reference
6 - Cyprus - Reference
7 - Croatia - Reference
8 - Maldives - Reference

I emailed them they said you cannot apply for e Visa. It will be manually done after sending them a bunch of things

Also I think this is for a normal visa not e Visa. Vietnam e Visa requirement says they accept normal passports and some international travel documents

If you read properly at the end of that page, you can see this "Holders of Travel Document can not apply for visas issued by Vietnam Embassy."

If you have this then yes, you can apply for Malaysia visa via embassy;

Yes, that's vietnam embassy in Canada. I'm talking about eVisa that you apply for on the official website which is issued by Vietnam Government.

Just to clarify on Vietnam, they currently don’t accept Canadian RTDs for e-Visas or regular visas. Even if the e-Visa site https://vietnamembassy.ca/consular-services/visa-application/ lists various documents, embassy guidance confirms that only national passports are accepted.

I came across this recent travel guide with updated https://gowithguide.com/blog/tourism-in-vietnam-statistics-2024-your-all-in-one-travel-guide-5696 and it reinforces the same idea, Vietnam is actively welcoming tourists, but RTD holders need to be extra cautious and likely won’t qualify for e-Visas.

Would be great to hear if anyone managed to get a Vietnam visa with an RTD another way, but for now, it seems like a no-go unless you have a national passport.
