November 2024 - Citizenship Applications

Got @WifeOfUSProgrammer IRCC GCMS requested on March 24, 2025. The CBSA clearance stuff is blanked out as usual. Nothing interesting and it matches the tracker. LPP not started. Test/background complete.

I requested CBSA GCMS notes for her a few days ago, so we'll see if anything has changed, but at least through 3/24, they did nothing else.

this tracks, when i ordered my cbsa notes, it was last worked on Feb 13 and LPP not started and this was received march 28th. I ordered my notes again just before the easter holiday so i'm waiting for that. but this is just weird. i'm also concerned the processing time will definitely go up next month, further dragging this out

They all show not started, status updated Nov 19 with a due date of Nov 14. I don't know what the "due dates" really mean in GCMS. They don't seem to be taken as anything. The completeness check was Nov 19 when I'm assuming the LPP statuses of "not started" got generated.

I take for granted that many of these database flags (started/not started/in process etc) don't necessarily mean what they mean to English speakers. They're a flag, a bit, that gets selected from a small menu of choices - they're not "notes" by someone thinking. Sometimes the important thing is the change in status - but that doesn't mean we know what the change in status means.

[I know you may be a programmer and this is in some way obvious to many, but I think we all need reminding. Humans are narrative-interpretation-machines that want to understand and intuit/guess meaning and narrative, including in contexts where there just isn't one.]

I assume most people's LPP is relatively instant once started. They are either valid or not. You either submitted language proof or not. Your prohibitions should be based on the BG already completed + answers to questions, or not. Same with physical presence.

I assume most peoples are opened, reviewed, and completed same day. If you have to get referred for investigation on any of those, it would take longer.

So, I assume "not started" really means that: that nobody has even started looking at it. I think once started, for most of us, it's going to be complete as well.

I don't assume that 'not started' means that. Too many cases reported (here) of status like this changing (back), which should not be possible/doesn't make sense. Also, prohibitions are farmed out (I presume), so what does 'started' mean - have they sent it to other agencies/departments? Or is this only when they get something back?

I also think there's something in how they do things that links some of these status in ways that don't make sense to outsiders.

FWIW of course - not sure - but I don't trust that this type of status 'means what the word means.' It's much more like humpty dumpty: "When I use a word, it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more, nor less," - and the "I" here is not a person, either.

I just wish we could find out what has made LPP slow to a tiny trickle, if that. I guess we'll never know, assuming they start back up again at full volume.

This kind of silence or slowdown was seen in December last year due to holidays, now seeing it in April. Hopefully from next week onwards we start seeing mass changes.

After two months I got an update today that my test results is invalidated

There are some seasonal things that come up, like student visa issuance before the start of each school semester. That said, I don't know of any that specifically overlap with citizenship apps, and the student visa issues were mostly at the visa offices abroad (i.e. physically stamping the passports and they'd hold off passport requests for other visa types).

But yeah, I think having a bit of patience for a week or two makes sense at this point.

Hello, newbie here. I would like to know what's next after this?

From: The Registrar of Canadian Citizenship -A letter stating how to download Canadian Citizenship E-Certificate. On the tracker all is done but still waiting for Decision Made/ Oath Ceremony. Does this letter means in principle we are all done (family of 5) just waiting for Oath Letter?

I received mine in person ceremony invitation letter yesterday. Tracker was updated 16th of April about citizenship ceremony started.

My wife however doesn't have any updates since 27th of February.

I'm new here and would really appreciate your assessment of my citizenship application status. Here’s a summary of my process so far. I'm in Toronto.

• Nov 25, 2024: Application filed
• Jan 31, 2025: Scheduled for citizenship test (email from DN SCR)
• Feb 3, 2025: Citizenship test status updated to Completed
• Feb 7, 2025: Fingerprint request received (email from DN Vancouver)
• Mar 17, 2025: Fingerprints collected (extension approved)

According to the tracker (last updated February 8, 2025):

• LPP: In progress
• Background verification: In progress

I have not contacted IRCC for any updates, as I trust the process will move forward as it should, but I'm a bit concerned now as I'll be on a long business trip outside of Canada.

I have a couple of questions:

1. Based on your experience, does my timeline seem delayed compared to other applications submitted in November 2024?
2. Is it possible for the LPP and background verification to be completed all at once, leading to a sudden citizenship ceremony invite?
   A friend who applied in September 2024 mentioned that all of his steps were completed in one day, and he was invited to the ceremony scheduled 10 days later. I'm wondering if this could happen to me as I’m flying out for a long, open-ended business trip to Asia starting tomorrow, and won't return until mid-June.
   If everything were to complete suddenly, I’m concerned I might not be able to return to Canada within the required timeframe to attend the ceremony.
3. Is it (more) common that all the steps (LPP and Background verification) will be completed gradually? And what are the steps after they are marked Completed? I'm a bit confused.
4. What is the likely timeline for my application, based on your experience?

I would truly appreciate any insights or suggestions you may have.

I requested my GCMS notes and when it arrived I noticed that the CoR is listed as Italy. Not sure why they listed my country of residence as Italy. I went back and checked the application I had submitted in November and it clearly states my Country of Residence as Canada.
I have submitted a WebForm to get this fixed.

IRCC website says that I can leave the country and enter Canada again once the citizenship application is submitted. So I am not sure what's causing this delay and why my CoR got messed up in their system.

Are you an Italian citizen?
My CoR is listed as USA which is where I am from despite clearly living in Canada. So CoR may have a different meaning for IRCC than we are assuming from the nomenclature.

can you please update me when you get your oath date in the tracker or email? Our tracker looks the same and I got the E-certificate email as well on the same day as you.

I have seen BG and LPP complete within the same week but not same day but who really knows..
