Prior to my citizenship application, I have lived across five provinces, and traveled overseas frequently, approximately every 3-4 months. On two occasions upon returning to Canada, I was stopped by CBSA officers and questioned about the frequency of my travels. Additionally, my luggage was searched twice during these encounters.
I left Canada shortly after submitting my application and returned in February 2025, after being away for 7 months. This time, however, I was not questioned at the border.

Fingerprints never asked.
I’ve applied in june 2024 and everything is complete except the background.
No updates since last October.
I wonder why it’s taking forever and how long that will take.

The answer to that is, well, as long as it takes.
A lot of people get stuck there for a year, 2 years or more (CF 2023 applicants threads!), with no real way of knowing whether yours will get completed tomorrow or in 18 months. So patience I guess...

Hi there, no… nothing yet. I only had one update in july 2025 when the prohibition that was completed went back to in progress. So now both background and prohibition are in progress. I was never asked for fingerprints. I see in other forums people from 2023 still stuck. :/

I am thinking of firing a writ of Mandamus to force IRCC to decide on my application. without Lawyer, it is complicated to present it in federal court and by lawyer it costs between 2000-8000$. I will wait up to 2 years. Then seriously think of Mandamus

At least it is good that we have our PR status. many people with temporary status are struggling in background check black hole. The federal government is also substituting the employees with AI useless and silly bots everywhere as well as IRCC!
